Should Moors murderer Ian Brady have 'the right to die'?

Featured Replies

There is a lot of time and money spent in keeping confessed murderers alive in Western society. I question the need to do so, more so when the murderer wishes to die.

it could be said that the killer is getting off lightly if he is allowed to die, rather than serve his punishment.

Another way to view it is would it be better off spending the money that is will cost to keep him for 35 years on some type of preventative education/identification or for support of the victim's families?

It's a shame they were not caught a few months earlier. They'd have swung, and deservedly so. Now let the him suffer.

I'm against the death penalty on principle, but thinking of all the money wasted keeping this man alive makes me wonder if it's worth it. On the other hand, if he wants to die, then we should be doing our best to keep him alive.

I agree that he should probably have been executed at the time of his trial, but it was only later that he and Myra Hindley identified the burial sites of four of the five victims, so there was some merit in keeping him alive.

Now I would like to see him in a regular prison, in the general population, being assaulted on a daily basis, but not injured seriously enough to warrant isolation due to medical reasons.

Let him suffer as his victims suffered, but for years instead of hours.

I have no tolerance for paedophiles of any degree.

He killed 4 adults and Keith Bennett was buried in Yorkshire, but what is now part of Greater Manchester..

So he claims in unpublished letters.

But remember that he is addicted to promoting himself by any and all means possible, so without independent confirmation I will ignore such statements.
