I think the whole world is very lucky that you don't have the qualifications to be in charge! Why does it matter what someone LOOKS like people are still people and deserve respect from others!!

Nah......someone who dresses and looks like a terrorist deserves suspicion before respect.

Terrorists don't consider you to be a person, so why would you say people are still people?

Suspicion before respect.

"Nah......someone who dresses and looks like a terrorist deserves suspicion before respect"

What does a terrorist look like? I have a good guess what they look like inside your mind...................thumbsup.gif

Just wait for them to racially profile white men traveling from and to Thailand and giving them extra checks for child porn making them feel like criminals and wait for ages ect. Bet the tune here would be totally different. Its all fun and games when the rights of others are infringed upon but once you are the one all hell breaks loose.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

TYPICAL dutch attitude which is why your country is in the shitter like the UK and France and all seem to have the same problems all stemming from Islam and Muslims

forgot to mention your neibours BELGIUM which looks like it will be completely Muslim controlled very soon since they have their first SHARIA MP and will soon be an Islamic state. Don't believe me Google it

Why would he not answer questions without a lawyer present.

Given the US penchant for rendering and abuse of the legal process I would also refuse to talk without a lawyer. Why is wanting the legal process to be followed a problem?

Given these idiots (US secret services) apparently cannot even tell the difference between a senators wife and a 1960-70's (male) singer it's hard to have any confidence in their processes.

What was he doing in Bangkok anyway?

If he is such a devoted Muslim, don't think he has any business in Thailand, except maybe visiting the south for certain undisclosed reasons.

On his way back from Indonesia and other destinations. He was on his way via TG to Frankfurt.

I am no big fan of Muslims, but plenty of them are just normal people like you and me. As long as they work and let others be I have no problem with them. Guess what most of them are like that.

What is happening here someone is put on a SECRET list and has no way to check it. Gets into trouble because of it, if he was on a public list he could have checked it.

Bet you would be real happy to be on a secret list not knowing until you checked in and got in all sorts of problems not being able to fight it as its is a secret list.

Sounds like a great thing.

He was in transit.

Do Americans consider this person an American?

I'm not giving my opinion, but really asking

if Americans consider this person (who he is and what he looks like) an American?

This treatment might now cause him to be a more radical muslim.

You'll probably find a vast spectrum of answers to this question, and one American obviously doesn't speak for all <~~~ not meant as a stab at you.

Again, there is no legal process as you reference. A foreigner in transit has none of the legal rights you refer to. The country to which the oreigner transits has no obligation to grant the rights that you assume exist. The country can legally search and seize property without a search warrant. A country can also detain passengers in transit.

I hope youre not in a position of decision making.

Its because of the ignorance of western PC pollies and public servants that our countries are filling up with all these Islamic creeps.

Appearances tell you so much about people including farangs.

If you dress like a bum you probably are one. See above caption.

IMHO BrianCR is exactly right with his comments. This guy is being judged by appearance and religion alone. Sure, he may have travelled to a couple of countries and attended religious meetings, but what else has he done?

Bear this in mind, if he was guilty of something, and was clean shaven and dressed in a suit, would that then make him not guilty?

Whatever reason he was on the 'secret no-fly list', we are not privy to that information to judge him.

Just hope that for whatever reason my name doesn't appear on one..................wink.png

His FB page hints at the growth of Beardism in the USA .

It also shows his "like" of marijuana as a wonder-medicine. I'm sure he'll make a great doctor, but I won't be on his patient list.

Of course, any American citizen is an American. But among us, we've got some terrorists.

If you're talking about profiling, that's a more delicate question. My view is some level of profiling is just common sense but that it has be watched carefully or it can easily become a policy of institutionalized discrimination.

There are approximately 500 US nationals on the USA no fly list. The remaining 19,500 or so people are foreigners. The US government is under no legal or moral obligation to allow the foreigners entry into the USA. In respect to the 500 or so US nationals on the no fly list, they can seek to be removed from the no fly list by appealing to the TSA and addressing the issues that put them on the list. Or, they can petition a U.S. appeals court directly for relief.

I get that kid.. but i thought this was a secret list..other then the normal one ? If its the normal one that you can check then its a totally different story.

Why would he not answer questions without a lawyer present.

it is every one right not to do so

any thing you say CAN and WILL be held against ou in a court of law so better keep your mouth shut

Is that a Law in Thailand?

You know for sure?

Or is that just a popular grab from an American or UK police show?

EDIT ... not saying that it's not good advice ... but is it Thai Law?

.

He was not being questioned by a Thai official. It is the law when you are being questioned by a US Government official.

I wonder why he has the potential for the no-fly list?

Got me stumped ... rolleyes.gif

.

First, I considered his name sounds like an Indian or Pakistani.

But, after I watched his picture, I am pretty sure (Not 100%), he belongs to one those two country and looks fundamentalist.

Maybe his past visited country, or any activity, his look, or such thing which make both Thai and US officials doubtful and put him on no-fly list and thus detained him... I suppose.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why you would wonder the airport terminal for four days waiting to be questioned, why did he not stay in a hotel ?

To gain sympathy and cause an international incident. If he is a U.S citizen why didn't he just go to the U.S embassy to find out what was going on? Maybe that would have been to low key and no publicity

And why not if you get held because you look different ? Just put him on a public no fly list at least then you know before you fly and you can try to get off it. Land of the free *LOL* Secret this secret that. Sure terrorist don't play nice but to become the thing you hate most to counter them.. they won.
If somebody is "bad" enough to be put on a no fly list, surely he should be procecuted. If people get put on a no fly list just because of suspicions, not proof, it could be you and me next!

Upsetting innocent people may promote terrorism.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I bet, and then when something does blow up and it's found that the person responsible was on a no-fly list, people will still be bitching about it.

It's been said -- if he cooperated, then it might not have been ugly. If police come and question me, I'd be happy to answer -- maybe that's because I've got nothing to hide?

If your going to have a no fly list then it would be pointless to make it public. Not saying I agree or not with the no fly list but if it is public then the bad guys can just check to see if their name is on it and recruit someone whose name is not.

You gotta be joking,do you actually believe what your govt.tells you.I believe the exact opposite what polly's tell me and am right more often than not.A lawyer will explain your rights, the govt.will tell you the bare minimum,if that.

My guess is that it is his name that generated the concern, not his appearance.

I have a friend who has a name similar (or the same -- don't know) on a no-fly list and he always gets pulled over for extra questioning and scrutiny. He gets to the airport ahead of time because he knows he will have trouble.

It's the BEARD that gets them every time... I have one too!!!

Reading all the posts here from Americans defending "their way", makes me proud to be European!thumbsup.gif

But you will have to admit that paranoia and ignorance can be very entertaining.

Why shouldn't he have sympathy and this evil practice exposed.

The big question in my mind is when he was placed on this list, there is no mentioning he had trouble leaving his country.

Maybe the light came on when they found out what he was doing while being outside the US.

If he was already a person of interest ,shame on the Us government for letting him fly and let the passengers find out if he was ok or not.

I remember having a passenger once and after he got out i was asked by someone undercover if he had created any problems for me.

This article leaves more questions for me.

The fact remains he is an American citizen but he did not really help himself.

Being let on airplanes going somewhere else ok but on the last leg of the trip being stopped?

More to this story for sure.

Posted

If those are pictures of the man ; quite apart from anything else , the sight of him would frighten other passengers , that their plane was due to be hyjacked or blown to pieces in flight .
