Gave up on Phuket Taxi's , Tuk Tuks ..Many years Ago . Around the time I was Told that " Ohhhhh Kata ..long way Mach Mach " .

Of Course the biggest Rip Off occur with the Tourist who jumps in with no mention of Price .

Must admit however , that I do find Bangkok Taxi's better these days , might take a Few Try's , but far far better than 10 Years Ago , and the System at the Airport is quite good . Still prefer Airport Link ..

Phuket will take some Cleaning up .

What I think should be read into this is:

"look, we are under pressure to do something about Phuket". " you, you and you (influential people supposedly named but not named in the article except the mayors son) need to keep your heads down for a while until this blows over ok? ". "We will let you know when it's ok to start robbing people again".

I've been out of a town for a bit, but yesterday I noticed that all the taxi thugs in the Karon area seemed to have been taking a holiday as there was maybe 30% of the normal amount of people yelling "taxi tuk tuk" and all of their "reserved" parking spots were vacant. Let's hope the DSI stays throughout the high season and these "drivers" look for a different source of a legit income.

That sums it up. I really hope this is for real and not just lip service.

IF it is for real maybe some families will consider returning to Phuket for holidays, but what a pathetic response from th Mayor's son to a genuine and serious issue.

What do you expect from him? He is making millions and millions of his business, which is now threatened.

Ic ould solve probelms in phuket. Make it illegal to get drowned off the beach, illegal to be beaten, robbed or mugged under threat of life imprisonment.

That would cure everything.
