I just moved to Bangkok and finally got my Samsung gs3 set up with a truemove Sim and the 699 b prepaid plan.

My phone is working - I am able to make calls.

My data is working as I am able to instagram and send messages on Facebook.

But..

My text messages are not being sent. I will always get a notification that the message was not sent.

Also, when I go onto chrome to browse I get a notice saying:

Access to the 'insert whatever website I am trying to visit' will be additionally charged over package.

Please select your advice of charge preference to continue browsing or close this browser.

I have always chosen do not advise and it works fine after.

Does anyone have any ideas about the SMS stuff? I was thinking of going to mbk today to figure it out.

Do you have TrueMove? Or TrueMove H?

I assume your phone has been unlocked from whatever service provider it was originally linked to?

I believe you may have two separate and distinct configuration issues:

1.) Your SMSC number may not be configured, or it is not configured properly. Also you need to tick SMS Auto-retrieve.

2.) Your APN is not configured properly.

Once you answer the top level question we can proceed. In the meantime...

OK, suspect it is an SMSC configuration issue. Your phone probably has the old service provider (Telus, Rogers, AT&T) SMSC configured.

Can you use the telephone dial pad to enter *#*#4636#*#* and then go to phone info, then scroll down and look at the SMSC:______________ entry.

Is there something which looks like a telephone number? If so, what is it?

Also, in your SMS app. go to menue, then go to Settings, and tick Auto-retrieve and Roaming Auto-retrieve, the latter of which allows you to receive SMSes when roaming on the legacy TrueMove GSM/1800 MHz network. There is no extra charge for this.

Thank you so much for your help. I ended up going to a true move shop at Siam bts and found out that my plan did not include any SMS. I was able to top-up there.

With the iSMart 699 bundle, each SMS costs 2.14 baht to originate. This would be deducted from your remaining pre-paid balance. I'm guessing here that your balance was zero? You can check your balance and validity by using the telephone dial-pad to enter #123# Call/Send, this is but one method to obtain this information.

As an FYI, here in Thailand you do not pay for incoming calls, or SMSes, so your allotment of 400 voice minutes are entirely used for calls which you originate.
