Road To Mae Sot

Featured Replies

Either here or on 2Bangkok, someone posted an enquiry about gravity-defying illusions and said there was one along the road from Tak to Mae Sot. It's a beautiful road but I haven't noticed that. There's a hill-tribe produce market - about the only place one can regularly see Lahu in traditional costume. But they're turning it into one of those human zoo tourist traps (B3 for the urinal).

Tried the google search thing here on this forum to re-read that, but was unable to locate it.

In the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina there are many of those places - making for good road-side attraction money-earners for locals, back when there was little else...

anyway, if anyone knows what I'm babbling about and remembers the other post, and would kindly guide me to it, I would be at least glad (thanks).

ummm i used to take motobike from Chiang mai to Bkk (im not riding my ex did) we stoped at Mae hong sorn and mae sot also. i cant remember the road number that we past on, but what i remember is there is a place you can see Murmese villages just beside the road that we r riding past, only big bamboo wall and a few thai soilders look after this place and not let there ppl trepassing our kingdom. the road was not so good but it beautiful. As about Tak to Mae sot i think it just normal road....and what its surprised me there is Mae sot ppl speak ENGLISH!!! hahahaha coz mostly burmese employees work and stay in mae sot area.....:o

Driving from Tak to Mae Sot after about 50 kms. Big signs with "Magic Hill".

Stripes on the road where you can stop and enjoy the sensation of your car rolling uphill (keep the engine going for your steering and brake power, because you actually are going down - I suppose - it's an illusion isn't it?). They sell coke as well and for people who don't get confused they even have Beer Chang.

Would it work going from Mae Sot to Tak as well? :o

Limbo

Don’t miss Umphang district if you visit Mae Sot, interesting places for people who like challenge adventure along the mountains and river.

Went to UmPhang over Songkran...whats the challenge ?? Only challenge we found was trying to find a road that was on the map but does not exist.

You must have missed some of the nice scenery and fun. Google search and you will know more about Umphang.

Well, saw plenty of nice scenery and songkran fun, limited time there meant not so much fun.

But what has that to do with 'challenging' just asking, you mean the drive there, the walking, the river ?? finding the road to Kanchanaburi lol ??

The National Park of Umphang offers everything for an unforgettable trip in the jungle: flourishing nature, tiny trails, bathing in the waterfalls or in hot spring, discovery of small forgotten villages, elephant riding in difficult passages, descent of rapids on bamboo rafts in the river of Huay May Klong.

Ti-Lo-Su waterfall, known as the biggest in Thailand, with hundred cascades waterfall over the width of 400 meters. If this is not challenging enough, I don't know what you want.

Well, I guess everyones idea of adventure varies with the mileage.

I mean, I took my 1yo and 4yo on a raft down a river further north on the burmese border. Was like floating in a swimming pool with the swim jet on lol. Sure the scenery was great, but challenging and adventurous for and adult ???? for the kids, sure, they loved it.

Re. Gravity defying illusions. There's one in Khao Kor, Petchaboon too. All I can say is....don't hold your breath. A friend and I tried out that one and on the anti climaxometer it scored a full 10.....nay, it was off the gauge
