Cable TV Provider

Featured Replies

I am extremely unhappy with my current cable tv provider in the city. The building supplies the service (not for free) I don't know who it is but it's 400 baht per month. It was acceptable in the past however stations freeze up and there is no consistency. Any ideas where I can go. Also can two apartments share one system

The only Cable tv Co I know of in Chiang Mai is WeTv,

I have just canceled my subscription to them, picture

not too good, neither is the programming, I now get

all I want to see off the Internet, good picture,up to

the minute shows, no adverts.

I am also waiting for TOT to come and install a box

so can receive TOT IPTV, (google it), couple of

packages, price not too bad if you take the first one

290 bht. 14 english speaking channels and lots of

Thai,no need for dish, but must have TOT line.

You can also install UKTV -Asia (google it) player

6 free UK channels, 14 if you pay 490 Bht.

So you have plenty of choices, happy viewing.

Go to Thaiexpat TV. It's payable annually, about ฿4500, gets a heap of UK TV channels, includes 5 BBC channels, 2 kids' channels, four or five movies every day, CNN, Oz TV, STAR, etc.

Great value, no satellite dishes needed, and the previous 6 days of TV is also there.

My internet is running on 10mB, and has no problem.

Truevisions is satellite TV, not cable TV like WE TV. We have one dish and two TVs, which can watch different programs at the same time. Don't know about sharing between two units in the building, though. They'd probably have to be side-by-side units. The channel selection, picture quality and reliability is very good, but it's pricey.

Yeah, I know we could go with some sort of computer-based TV system, but it's nice to be able to flip thru channels easily and look at an on-screen guide for all the channels. Plus, we enjoy the serendipity of discovering a good movie that we wouldn't have otherwise downloaded or planned to watch.

Did True stop offering cable?

Maybe it is/was just for business? Only in Bangkok?

Think cable only available in BKK.

I'm trying to get cable tv at the moment in Mae Jo, Chiang Mai. Truevision do offer both cable and satellite connection in chiang mai, but as we found out this morning when the technician came to home, to get the cable connected you need to be within 100m of a truevision hub. On google maps at the true shop yesterday the distance looked ok, but in reality we are over a 100m, so it looks like either satellite or internet for me.(or wait to install a new hub ) ...

I've had TrueVisions cable for years. It's not great but in my opinion the channel selection is marginally better than WETV--BBC News, CNN, Bloomberg and MSNBC, a few English language movie channels that rarely have anything I'm interested in watching, some sports channels that also rarely have anything I'm interested in, a handful of BBC Knowledge and History channels, and miscelleaneous crap channels. There are occasional brief service interruptions but not many.

I have TrueVisions cable in Chiang Mai as well.. Very few stations that I ever watch, but they are the only service, as far as I know, that carries Turner Classic Movies - vintage old films without commercials and ASN, which provides a good variety of sports from the US. Generally pretty good service, but there have been a few interruptions and occasional sync problems.

heybruce, how much per month? I don't mind WETV but you just sparked my interest considerably when you mentioned CNN, Bloomberg and MSNBC as those are the 3 channels (along with CNBC) that I miss the most. Yes I'm a liberal and proud of it.biggrin.png

Edit: just perused the website and the cable service seems to be well-hidden! Can't find any info.

I have the Gold package for about 1600 baht a month. To get ASN and Turner Classic Movies I assume you need the Platinum package, which is more expensive, though I don't know how much. Programming and other information is at:

http://www.truevisionstv.com/trueworld.aspx

BTW, I should have said CNBC Asia, which is a business news channel similar to Bloomberg. I don't consider them or CNN and BBC to be liberal news channels, but I suppose to a Fox News viewer everything that isn't Fox is liberal.

Ah, same pricing as satellite service from them. Been there, done that. I'll stick with WETV at 350/pm. Thanks.

You can get both TCM and ASN in the Super Knowledge package - 590 baht/month.

You can get both TCM and ASN in the Super Knowledge package - 590 baht/month.

Is that 590 baht in addition to the basic or Gold package, or is this a package deal for 590 baht/month that includes TCM and ASN?

Never mind, I just checked. Good value, but without BBC news I don't want it.

How does IPM (satellite) TV stack up against base TrueVision packages? I understand mainly TV FTA programs + some English news? Note the IPMTV website is currently unavailable/hacked.

Actually, they do give you BBC Worldnews on an unidentified "Future channel" (122), in the evening, but it's not 24hr/day. If you need to tune in BBC at any time you would need a different package.

Rob, We have IPM on our second set. Cost us 2,300 baht for dish, installation and box ,once only payment.

Standard Thai stations, some movies and English news on Al Jazeera, France 24 (ironically with British announcers) and Asia News in English out of Hong Kong I think. They are all excellent.

You know where we live if you want to have a look first hand. I find all web sites for TV providers absolutely useless.

Thanks ... will drop by later rather than sooner, too much going on at present with building.

Nothing wrong with AJ and F24. IMHO, far better, more truthful reporting than CNN and other loony-news sites. WETV had both I think, when we rented in CM cbd, very good news coverage.
