This story could be in the pages of any national newspaper, the world over. This mentality is present in every country on the planet. Immaturity, alcohol and/or drugs, and testosterone can be a lethal combination when you add weapons to the mix. The moral disconnect that is present in these stories is the real scary part.

Agree, but not at the rate that happens in Thailand

Phuket 7-Eleven teenage shooter claims self-defense
Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- Two teenagers charged yesterday with shooting dead an 18-year-old man outside of a 7-Eleven in Rawai claimed that the gun was fired out of self-defense.

Korrawit Sriboonma, a waiter at the popular Sala Loi seafood restaurant on the Rawai beachfront, was gunned down with a homemade gun on the corner of Soi Laem Ka Yai at about 4am on Sunday (story here).

Charged with the killing and presented to the press at Chalong Police Station yesterday morning were Panuwitch “Nice” A-sana, 19, and Jakkapong “Mew” Srisawang, 18.

Both are residents of Rawai.

A third suspect, a 15-year-old male, was released after Mr Panuwitch and Mr Jakkapong concurred in their statements that the juvenile played no part in the death of Mr Korrawit.

“Mr Panuwitch confessed that he was the one who shot Mr Korrawit with the handmade gun, but he said he did it only to protect Mr Jakkapong,” Chalong Superintendent Kritapas Daztharasorn told the press.

The suspects claimed that Mr Korrawit had threatened them with a “Sparta blade”, a long knife named for its resemblance to the weapon used by ancient Greeks.

Tensions rose again when the teens saw Mr Korrawit outside the 7-Eleven, said Col Krittapas.

“Mr Panuwitch said that he shot Mr Korrawit because Mr Korrawit was about to attack Mr Jakkapong,” Col Krittapas said.

Mr Panuwitch and Mr Jakkapong have been charged with gang attack with intent to kill and with the possession of, and carrying of, an illegal firearm in public.

“They both accepted the charges,” Col Krittapas said.

While we should probably blame both parents and society, don't forget that these boys have sisters, who have generally managed to stay out of trouble - or at least managed to stay out of the news. They have the same parents, go to the same schools and live in the same society, so perhaps some of the blame should be put on the boys themselves?

Just for starters, check out the murder rate for gangbangers in Chicago's south side.......and that's only one city!

.. How easy is for a kids to buy a gun ?

As mentioned in the article, a "Thai Pradit" is a homemade gun. Sometimes technical students will make them in shop.

Jeez, I made a useless coat hanger and paint scraper!
