Rwandan woman arrested at Bangkok's Don Mueang airport with 2kg of 'ice'

If the Thais wanted to show that they are serious about drug smuggling - they would have gotten her to continue to the contact while they were undercover and then keep moving the busts up the food chain. Hauling off a Rwandan mule doesn't really prove anything except a great many Thai photo ops and back slapping in the good old boy Thai network.

My thoughts exactly.

Because the BiB are not that smart, the woman's contact(s) in Thailand are breathing a sigh of relief.

Death sentence awaits.

They have no problem killing foreigners for this sort of crime if they are from Africa. Other nationalities usually get commuted to life.

Surely bringing this kind of drug into Thailand is like bringing coals to Newcastle? Thailand is a hub for production and distribution of this drug.

Precisely.

These mules "importing" methamphetamine must be stopped from competing with the domestic drug supply monopoly - which, as we all know, is controlled by "persons of influence"..............

I do feel a little sorry for the woman. Yes, she has done wrong, but Rwanda is hardly a golden land of opportunities, is it?

More importantly there must be more to the story of wearing a red blanket thing and green bag. Why?

Chinese have a saying - red and green together is beautifull like dog shit - or something like that.

2kg is a drop in the ocean. There was a Thai tobacco farmer caught with 9kg just two weeks ago and to date this year police have busted over 120million [yes 120,000,000] yaba tablets. (estimated at only 15% of traffic). Ice & Yaba - huge problem in Thailand for the poor; huge benefit for the elite & the BiB.

As an ex customs officer, I can suggest her nationality, travel route, time the ticket was booked, how it was paid for (cash) would alert any countries Customs officials. She was gone before she hit the ground in swampy. Unfortunately these mules do not know or are not told what Customs knows before you even enter the country. Not withstanding lazy customs officers, her appearance (racial profiling is an accepted practice in Customs) would have set off some thought of asking her a few quick questions which would have exposed the truth or a simple baggage exam, drug swap, dog run and X-ray of the bags.......

In relation to letting them go through and following them to pick up the bigger fish, this can only be done when several important factors are realized. The mule must be agreeable and happy to assist the hard working police and customs official. Secondly, the goods must still be intact and in a condition that doesn't raise suspicion with the end carrier. In my experience this didn't always bring in bigger fish just another fool, too greedy and too stupid.

Intelligence is a far better tool, where officers can download vital personal information from mobile SIM cards. It's amazing who knows who! But alas this information in the wrong hands could prove very ugly for some important people in Thailand. Back to the x-Ray machine and racial profiling for Thailand....and happy pics!

That is always the next step in good LE .... Time consuming and costly and you lack the media exposure from the first arrest ...BUt the bigger person will just find another suplier story goes on ...

just fyi:

1/ let's not forget that the thai have been supporting ALL major insurgents from burma (except for the communists) for ages. these very insurgents, more particular the ones from shan state, have been active in drug trade for decades.

2/ let's not forget that tons of "pseudo" have been smuggled from thailand into burma in recent years so that meth-labs in the golden triangle can cook the dope.

3/ let's not forget that yaba is supplied by thai factory bosses, truck companies, fishing companies, etc to their workers in order to stimulate "OT".

4/ let's not forget that yaba was widely/legally available over the counter in thailand back in the days. (and is still subscribed in many western countries)

my point is: this one african lady isn't the real dope problem here...

"Officials demanded to search her luggage and discovered it had a false bottom" which tied in nicely with her equally false head.

It's in the Thai Customs manual.

14.3 An alien entering the Kingdom with a green head should be considered suspicious.

No problem with the 'red' shirt then?

She was sure the red would make her less conspicuous....

Without an embassy, consulate or foreign affairs team from her own country to help she is looking at the rest of her life, probably 30-40 years in a sweltering shithole jail cell until she dies of some disease.

Sad, really.

Perhaps feeling much like many of the end users of the drug she was transporting should their drug taking turn to addiction.

Good job Airport Security !!!! One less low life, scumbag destroying lives

in Thailand with her drugs, so she can make a quick buck.

A pity they don't deal more harshly with the local Yaba suppliers, there's thousands of kilos being brought in from neighbouring countries every year. The Thais neither get death sentences or even long prison terms when they are caught.

As she's got a very peculiar 'green' head maybe they should x-ray her head - maybe a lot of 'weed' in there
