Adobe Creative Cloud

Featured Replies

Not sure how many here use Photoshop but Adobe has changed its business strategy. Adobe will no longer be licensing any new releases of PS after PS6. Instead, they will be offering only subscriptions to cloud based apps. This is just a heads-up for anyone using PS and who plan to continue using it going forward. Adobe is offering a subscription to PS and LR5 for a discounted price of $9.99 (or 300THB) per month with a one year contract. This is a half price offer but is only good until Dec 2, 2013. Since I already have licenses for LR4 and CS6, I was very reluctant to take them up on their offer but the fact of the matter is that Adobe will ultimately discontinue supporting these releases at some future release of the operating system, be it Windows or OSx.

The short of it is that I gave in and signed up for the special offer. sad.png

My question is, has anyone else felt compelled to subscribe to PS Creative Cloud? What are your feelings about this direction that Adobe has taken?

At that price do you only get Photoshop or do you get the whole creative suite?

Only PS CC and LR5! The full suite is around $50/Mo. I am just happy I only use those two! ! !

It's cheap when you consider the price of CS6. $120 a year, that's what, £75!!!

Seriously cheap!

Yeah, the combined price of PS6 and LR5 is about $800 so, if the price stays at 120 a year it's not a bad deal. Figure about 6 years of subscription is $820. Normally in that time one would have likely upgraded a couple times and the cost of that would have to be factored in as well. So, for $120 a year you are always on the latest and greatest AS LONG AS, they do not raise the prices inordinately.

You'll need a good internet connection, no?

Because right now it'd be more like Irritable Intermittent Fog than Creative Cloud for me.

No, the programs reside on your computer. Just have to connect to the internet once a month so that Adobe can keep your programs working (assuming they received your monthly subscription payment which the automatically charge to your credit card as part of the subscription agreement).

Oh that's marvellous!

Count me in!

I have, like many others, refused the cloud subscription. As I see it, the only benefit is access to the latest ACR RAW updates which I never use. Capture One Pro leaves ACR in it's wake and constantly provides FREE updates. In the 5 years I have used this software I have only needed to update on two occasions at a total cost of $140. Iridient RAW is equally superior and many new software programmes are coming to light, replicating the Photoshop interface, and now challenging Adobe. The backlash will eventually tell and hit Adobe, of that I'm sure.

I have a fully licensed copy of both LR4.4 and CS6 and do not envisage a need in the foreseeable future to "upgrade". The programme is, in reality, completely bloated for mere photographic use although I accept that the graphic designers and web specialists will indeed see a need and advantage in it's continual use at the subscription level. For me, this doesn't apply. Indeed, I would suggest that in line with most users, I barely understand, or use, much more than 10% or so of it's facilities.

I doubt any further "increments" would be beneficial.

Fimgirl, I agree that LR4 and CS6 would likely be enough for me to use for a long time BUT my concern is being able to use these programs in the future since they will probably be incompatible with future releases of OSx. Adobe will not continue to support these programs beyond maybe one more release of the operating system. That means that I would have to remain at that release of the OS if I wanted to ensure that my Adobe programs continued to work. This one point was what prompted me to make the change now and take advantage of the lower subscription price offer.

Valid concern and one I keep my eye on. Should an OSX update threaten then of course a re-think will be in order.

Hope it's a long way off !
