Pheu Thai 'in dilemma' over Thaksin's shadow: Chaturon
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Education Minister Chaturon Chaisang has admitted that the ruling Pheu Thai party is facing a dilemma regarding to the shadow of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra over the government.

In his special interview with BBC, Chaturon said the Pheu Thai would have to find a way to balance Thaksin's influence over the Cabinet.

"The party will need to find some balance in this," Chaturon, who was acting leader of the Thai Rak Thai part when it was dissolved, told BBC.

"They will need to make it clear that whoever is going to be prime minister can show that they have independence and can make a decision on their own."

Critics and the anti-Thasksin side alleged that Prime Minister, Yingluck Shinawatra was only Thaksin's puppet.

But Chaturon said Yingluck "is trying to work very hard to show independence from her brother".

Chaturon said the on-going protests would not lead to a coup, but he qualified it by saying "in my experience a coup can take place any time".

Of course she is independent from her brother. She shops in different stores for different things than he does. But I think the independence stops there.

Thus so far the PTP have avoided the most obvious ,that would put out the flames that they have created, the return of Thaskin to face the original charges plus the absconding from Thailand on Bail , the continuance of the UN investigation into human rights abuse under Thaskin, the further investigations into corruption and fraud whilst Thaskin was Prime MInister , plus the supporters of both Democrats , PTP and minor parties, who face criminal charges to face the music, if you do the crime you do the time , end of story , no Amnesty. bah.gif width=19 alt=bah.gif>

Great idea! He and Suthep could be cell mates. I wonder who would be get to be on top … (bunk)

Yingluck's only purpose is to fool the people by creating smoke screens. The last 2 years have proven that her nr1 policy is facilitating her own family in order to steel money from the country, She is a lying disgrace. I hope karma will deal with this sneaky lady.

Amazing, he still doesn't get it, convicted criminals, on the run from justice, should not have ANY influence over the Cabinet.

The education minister seems to have a learning disability.

He seems to have hearing difficulties too.

Her Excellency the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister of Thailand has made it perfectly clear that she is in charge of her government and her brother has no influence whatsoever.

The Education Minister would be better employed using some of his teaching skills helping his boss sort out her rice scheme because the figures aren't quite adding up.

100% agree! It's just a show.

What chaturon is really saying is that need to find a better way to hide / cover up the man abroad.

They, the members of the P.T.P. and their coalition partners all drank from the poisoned chalice that Thaksin offered them,

They drank deeply from the poisoned chalice either from the desire for ministerial positions or financial rewards, nothing more nothing less.

Now as the effects of that heady draugh they drank begin to take effect Chuturon among others is trying to create a cosmetic antidote to the contents of that chalice.

Now there is only one antidote, that is the exorcism politically of the wicked wizard who handed these fools the poisoned chalice from which they drank.

Perhaps slowly but surely cracks are starting to appear within the ranks as they come to see the true cost of their drinking habit and the accompanying resultant hangover to it as well..

Woe unto those who followeth strong political drink!!whistling.gif

Err...so who's Gandalf?

Bravo Charuron - it's about time an insider spoke up about Thaksin. He is also right about YL trying very hard to show independence from her brother. Unfortunately she's failing miserably.

I fear that he will soon be out of the Education Ministry which would be a shame as he is not doing a bad job.

She probably has more experience doing that, she has none in the way of politics and never did! Which when you need a puppet is ideal whistling.gif

He is probably one that could be rehabilitated to make a good minister of education given the right administration to work under.

This announcement could be his first step in heading for a fire exit.

There are probably a couple of other cabinet ministers who could be useful to the country given the same circumstances.

This is guy is one of the more sensible Puea Thai heavy weights, pity he can't see how his party is nothing more than a personal family fiefdom. He should go off and form a new party, one that represents the people not a person. We need to move on from this old school strong-man politics model, it's unhealthy, just ask Yingluck. She's having to deal with the fallout. Peua Thaksin party needs to be totally dismantled.

A fugitive convicted criminal have influence over the Cabinet, now that tell's me all about the cabinet. At least they finally admit it now coffee1.gif

His position as cabinet minister will only be temporary anyway, was he not given the position in the last reshuffle?

Should PT survive there will in all probability be another reshuffle in a couple of months and someone else who is the 'best man for the job' will move in.

It was reported about a month back that Noppodan, Thaksins mouthpiece sat it was natural to have cabinet changes about every 6 months.

The dilemma: Money, No Money.

Duh, I'm sure they're wracking their heads over this one.

This guys one of the smarter ones, positioning himself ever so slightly on the fence to minimize the damage to his rep if the ball were ever to fall on the other court.
