Chiang Mai bank robbed by a lone robber

CHIANG MAI: -- A lone robber walked away with more than 400,000 baht in cash from a Kasikorn Bank’s branch office in Chiang Mai’s Muang district on Wednesday.

The daring broad daylight robbery took place at the 89 Plaza branch of Kasikorn Bank which is located about 100 metres from the nearest police station. The robber was described as a man in his 30s, about 1.7 metre tall, wearing a green cap, a black jacket and black sunglasses.

Police said that the lone robber walked straight into counter No 2 , whipped out a pistol and placed a bag on the counter. “This is a robbery, hand me one million baht,” he was quoted to have announced as he forced a shocked teller, Ms Pornnipa Poomruang, to open a drawer and hand over the money to him.

Police said that the robbery took about two minutes and suspected that the robber might have been trained in military combat because he was calm and the operation was quick and precise.

However, police were confident that they would able to track down the robber because he was caught in the bank’s surveillance cameras.

Earlier on November 3, a Bankok Bank’s branch in Chiang Mai’s Mae Ping district was robbed of 23,000 baht by a robber using a fake bomb. The robber is still at large.
