Briggsy
I suspect this was a 10-year-old manboy and a 38 kg fish. More dodgy reporting.
Suradit69
Is a 10kg fish really capable of doing this? I was thinking the same thing, I'm sorry for his death of course, but I have a difficult time picturing anything weighing 10 kg dragging me anywhere I didn't want to go. Popular Post LivinginKata
Is a 10kg fish really capable of doing this? I very much doubt it. Must be more to this incident. Maybe out of his depth, can't swim, panic .... and why did he not let go of the spear gun.

Popular Post Old Croc
Is a 10kg fish really capable of doing this? I've speared fish around this size with a gidgie (Hawaiian sling) while snorkelling, and had a lot of trouble getting them up from the depths. Almost ran out of breath on one occasion I remember. I didn't want to let go and lose my spear.
falangadang
If he was revived it could be that he had water on the lungs and suffered a secondary drowning. This is a common occurrence for many drown victims who have been revived but later drown on dry land so to speak!
JulesMad
I am a diver so I am ANTI-spear fishing... Now the fish 'bite' back, can't blame them Very sad the guy lost his life, but in all honesty: som nam na! Popular Post IrishIvan
A man has died and people cheer? I am pro spear fishing as the fish can be selected, therefore no pulling up fish that are unwanted, and there is no fishing line left in the water. What would you prefer? Fishing nets and nylon line and <deleted> in the water everywhere?

Old Croc, is right....very difficult to let your catch go.......and at that moment you don't think of the Consequences. Nothing to do with his swimming skills or panic. It's the excitement that counts. Anyway.....I'm really sorry for his death. Edited January 1, 2014 by Costas2008

Popular Post Alwyn
A person lost his life and people are making jokes about it. Unbelievable. Well not unbelievable I guess as the majority here seem to think as long as it doesn't happen to them, it's funny or even worse if it happens to a Thai, they cheer. Shame on you.

Popular Post johnnycthedog
Good job fishie I hope you are joking...or drunk...or on drugs. Because if this is the best comment you can come up with and you pretend to be a normal, caring and functional human being , then you are one sorry human piece of <deleted>. Yes the story is unusual but it's about the death of a young Thai spearfisherman who probably had family including children. Do you jump up and down when a Thai fishing boat sinks and people drown? Your best comment would be not to post anything on this subject. Hmmm - just checked your profile - 9 posts and 803 profile views. Some of your other posts must have raised the shackles of other TV readers as well. Edited January 1, 2014 by johnnycthedog

I know it is virtually unheard of (not only in Thailand), but a little thinking and logical reasoning might help Why should you be anti spearfishing. Unlike anglers and commercial fishing, spear fishermen are selective in what fish they spear. They dont spear inedible fish. They normally kill them outright with a shot to head. Anglers and commercial fishermen often catch inedible coral fish and leave them dying gasping for air. I think perhaps you don't know anything about spearfishing.
gamini
a 10 kilo queenfish is very powerful and could pull a small diver under. Unfortunately many spearfishermen have drowned this way. I have seen a few big queenfish arond Phuket. What usually happens is the line on the speargun gets tangled around the divers legs and the fish goes under a rock. It happened to me in the Maldives in 1955.Fortunately I had a knife and cut myself free.
jacko45k
10kg isn't a bad sized fish...22 lbs. Caught some rod fishing and some breeds can put up quite a fight and easily pull a swimmer under. But if he was alive when they got him to shore perhaps it was more than drowning. Tragic.....
