Another gaur carcass discovered, bringing total to 23
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- Another gaur carcass was discovered yesterday, bringing the number of wild cattle deaths in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Kui Buri National Park to 23.

An investigation into the gaur deaths has been ongoing since last month, but the reasons still remains unknown. Park officials found the latest carcass near the Pa Yang Forest Protection Unit and collected samples for laboratory testing. It is estimated that the animal died 1-2 months ago.

The investigation has so far found that samples collected from 19 carcasses last month showed no signs of disease. However, all of them were found to have a nitrate compound varying from 165 to 2,021 milligrams per kilogram, while nine samples were also contaminated with the bacteria Clostridium novyi. But it remains inconclusive that such contamination could cause the sudden death of the gaurs.

Military celebrates Royal Thai Armed Forces Day

BANGKOK, 18 January 2014, (NNT) --The Supreme Commander led several military chiefs and officers to lay wreaths at the National Memorial to commemorate the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day on January 18.

Supreme Commander, General Thanasak Patimaprakorn, on January 18 laid wreaths to commemorate the victory of King Naresuan the Great, and to honor other late kings, and military personnel who sacrificed their lives to protect Thailand’s sovereignty.

Several military chiefs were present except for the Army Chief, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, who had a previous engagement. Gen, Prayuth, however, assigned Deputy Commander-in-Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr to attend the event on his behalf, saying he would join the rest of the Armed Forces at the 11th Infantry Regiment in the afternoon, where a military parade would take place.

This year is the first time heavy artillery and armaments have been showcased in the military procession.
