Great places to live, south of Hua Hin? Anyone know more about this?

The most attractive part of Hua Hin for me, is the proximity to the gulf, and to Bangkok. How about the areas south of Hua Hin? Between there and Chumporn? Anyone know about some nice spots? Near, or on the beach? Or perhaps in the hills, with a great view of the gulf? Some ex-pats living nearby? Some services like post offices, shops, restaurants, etc? I am looking to move from Samui, and wondering about this area. I like Hua Hin, but want an area less congested. Would be great to have easy access to Hua Hin, perhaps within 2 hours drive? Is the land reasonable? What kinds of services are available for foreigners? Thanks a lot. Any informations is appreciated.

I think the are around Pranburi may interest you.

They have a nice little marina there up the river if you have an interest in boats.

More specifically the beach village area of Pak nam pran ( near Pranburi ) looks nice.

I have not stayed there yet but plan to explore it more next time I am in Hua Hin.

It located about 30 minutes drive south of Hua Hin.

The post above mentions some nice spots, but they certainly aren't the best in my opinion. Pak nam pran didn't do too much for me. I found it to be relatively expensive for what is on offer in terms of the beach and conveniences I like to have at my disposal. A bit further south, there is the Dolphin Bay area which is a much nicer beach isolated by itself with a few hotels/resorts. There isn't even a 7-11 near the beach, so it is a bit like a breath of fresh air for me when I escape Bangkok.

The real gem for me is just a bit south of there some more. Bam Kroot is a really nice spot. The beach goes on for ages, and it is pretty. A nice costal road allows you to cruise and take in the scenery. There are several expats living there, retired ir small business owners. Surprisingly, there are several options to get yourself a western meal at reasonable prices. Believe it or not, I had the best piece of meatloaf I've ever found in Thailand down there. JJ's does some really fantastic hamburgers. Of course, there is plenty of Thai food to be had. If you are looking for nightlife, you are looking in the wrong place. What I like about the area is that it is so relaxed. It's really quiet, and it is easy to find yourself your own stretch of beach which will be devoid of vendors trying to sell you junk, massage girls, and those horrible umbrellas and chairs that just ruin what would be an otherwise beautiful beach. It's on the train line, and you have stopped at the station en route to Samui if you have taken the train. I'd say it is certainly worth checking out, but that's just one man's opinion.

I have a small office on the beach at Dolphin Bay and specialize in this area only, from Pak Nam Pran down to Kui Buri. Land is very cheap here compared to Hua Hin and there are a small number of resorts and resale properties also available in the area.

I would be happy to help anyone that is interested in looking at relocating to this area, in my opinion it is still an unspoilt gem, just 30 minutes from HH and with a Tesco Lotus at Pranburi to stock up with provisions.
