The two possible flight paths cover a vast area to search. Looks like the relatives will need to endure more uncertainty.

How far could it go after the turn? Just thinking about the purpose of diverting the plane. If it went North West could it get to Crimea for example? There's so much political unrest these days there's quite a few possible locations for a politically motivated crime - but all seem to be a long way from Malaysia?

An aircraft that isn't squawking (the authorities have said the transponder was isolated manually and flew on for several hours) will show up as possible hostile on military radar and would have been intercepted, so they would have had to plot a path that doesn't have any air defense radar, highly improbable. That leaves the aircraft in the Indian or pacific ocean. I don't know if any of the many islands have an airstrip without radar were a big 777 can get down without being noticed. Very strange!

It definitely feels like some sort of coverup. With all those people on the plane, no one called their families or friends? I recall telephone calls made made from the aircrafts that were hijacked during 9-11 in the US. Not 1 person was able to send out a call to a family member? Seems fishy to me.

I have met people from Yeman and Pakistan. They were not hostile to me....

They are wasting time looking for the plane at the bottom of the ocean... what they should be doing is scouring every airport in the Middle East of countries that are hostile to the west.... for example YEMEN and PAKISTAN.... no doubt more than a few people are involved.... the plane has not been hijacked for ransom.... it is obvious that whoever is behind this thought it through and are probably using the plane as a weapon... the passengers are in some auditorium being held hostage... but the hijackers do not want them... they are merely "collateral damage.."

I have been saying for the last 5 days that it was most likely hijacked by crew or passengers.

I was labelled a "conspiracy theorist" for my troubles despite it being the most likely and logical explanation.

The Malaysians had been avoiding it and sending people on a wild goose chase in the Gulf of Thailand because the truth will be a huge black eye against Malaysia Airlines and KLIA security.

I don't expect an apology to be forthcoming...

As I mentioned before, any "women" in burkas at KLIA are not asked to remove them in order to verify them against the photo in "their" passport at immigration control or at the gates. There could be anyone inside those outfits.

As an aviation professional and ex Air Safety Investigator I have refrained from posting so far as most of the posts , as usual with aviation topics on TV, have been ignorant, arrogant, often racially offensive and its a waste of time to respond.

However some comments. Most of the "chaos" about the search that Malaysian, Vietnamese, Singaporean, Thai, Chinese, US, Australian and NZ participants have ALL conducted is in fact confusion caused by hopelessly inaccurate and sensational press reports - including comments by their "experts". The first thing in any aviation incident is NEVER to place any reliance in press reports. It is most unfortunate that the relatives of those missing have to put up with this.

I have worked on Air Traffic Control and Airport projects extensively in Asia, including 10 years in Malaysia. The Malaysians (and their neighbours) are quire capable of mounting competent search and rescue missions, dependant on the data available. They stated in the right place (then the last known position) and expanded this area as further CONFIRMED new data (not press beat ups) became available.

The only mistake the Malaysians did make was in not having a professional media person to handle the press conferences, and in not holding these more frequently. The press is driven by the 24 hours news cycle - and if they don't get what they think they need they go nuts and run wild in all directions.

The latest CONFIRMED information means searching in a huge area, and support will be needed form the countries in the region, and those with superior detection systems - satellite, aircraft and surface and submarine vessels. We can only hope that they are successful.

The press is not only inaccurate about aviation matters. The Daily Mail report refers to the Malaysian Prime Minister as Mr Razak. He is not - he is Mr Najib. He is a Malay Muslim and in keeping with that tradition his full name is Najib bin Tun Razak - the "bin" means son of his father Tun Razak (the second Prime Minister of Malaysia). Razak is his father's named not his. You cant count on the press to get anything much correct.

Unless the Malay Government is in direct contact with the hijackers who are demanding a big ransom, how do they know it has been hijacked? I am sure the Chinese will be pleased to know.

Well, there are other reasons to hijack a plane beyond seeking ransom..Flying planes off to Cuba used to be a popular pastime in the 60s and 70s for people seeking 'political refuge' or attention (my parents were on one such flight). I guess the assumption here is that if the locating/communication devices were disabled, the person did so with the intent of taking control of the plane and directing it off course without being detected. That would technically be a hijacking...

Why has no one mentioned the possibility that the plane was taken over by remote control and not necessarily by someone on board. I know " conspiracy theory", but it is a fact that planes can be controlled remotely now, tech has been around for a long time. Lots of possibilities still out there.
