Chiang Rai - Hotels - Resorts

Featured Replies

I will be going to Chiang Rai on the 1st of April for a week.

Looked through Agoda and there are many hotels and resorts listed there.

So many, that I can’t make a decision.

What I would like to ask the fellow members, if you can, please, recommend for me a hotel or resort, you have stayed in before and it was to your satisfaction.

As I am going by car, distance from the centre is not so important.

Also, while in Chiang Rai, I will be delighted to meet any of the TVF members for a chat or a beer.

If you are interested, please, PM me.

Promise, I will keep my mouth shut and not mention either Yingluck or Sutherp.

I will really appreciate your answers.

Many Thanks.

Depends what your budget is. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, visibility is so poor because of the terrible smoke hanging over CR that you would be best served staying close to the main city proper and not paying any premiums for resorts that offer spectacular views. I live very close to a mountain chain but can not see any of it!

Better hotels in town would be (in my order of preference):

Le Meridian (excellent food, service, location, ambiance)

Legend (great location for city activities)

Dusit (very good Chinese restaurant)

Where are you coming from?

Thanks Fiddlesticks

From Khon Kaen, estimate to do it in 11 hours.

But I want the car to see Chiang Rai around.

Never been there before.

Well visibility is about 1/4 mile right now. Hoping to get some showers on Sat and Sunday but need DAYS to clear this pollution from our skies. Wish you could come when you can really see how beautiful CR is when the sky is clear. Maybe by mid May things will be better.

Appreciate your advice, but the reason I'm coming to CR is because the wife has enrolled her son to one of those Buddhist, meditation, self awareness classes, for a week.

So I grabbed the opportunity to visit Chiang Rai.

I see. Well, you can get a CLOSE UP view of CR then. Some of the local sights to try to take in might be the White Temple and the Black Temple (both are tourist must-sees), Doi Tung/Mae Fa Luang Garden, and the Golden Triangle are all the CR must-see places. Visiting Doi MaeSalong is another must see but with such poor visibility, you will miss half the impact of the visit which is the amazing views on the way to and from. We have a smallish mall, a nightly "Night Bazaar" (yawn) and a rather nice Sat night walking street. Only 1 Starbucks ! ! ! ! That is at the mall.

The pride of CR really is the beautiful countryside which can be seen when the smog clears. Anyway, hope all this is of some help. Drive safe. Enjoy smokey CR. Give a shout before you set out.

Two months ago I was in Chiang Rai and my thai friend recommended me this resort http://suankeawresort.weebly.com that is value for money, although it's slightly out of town, I find this places quite tranquil with lot of green surrounding and the service personals are very friendly.

Thank you, Thaising, looks really good.

Haven't made my mind up yet.

I checked out North Star Hotel and Resort near the White Temple yesterday.

At 800 baht a night, anyone with transport who doesn't mind staying about 10kms out of town could not go wrong.

Run by a very friendly Thai/American lady.

  • 1 month later...

Checked out a new hotel today.

Very nice and the receptionist told us standard check in was 1800B a night.

BUT...

Locals would get a special price with no joiner fee. whistling.gifgiggle.giflaugh.png
