An oil tank overturns, causes leakage

BANGKOK: -- An oil tank was slammed into by an 18-wheel truck Saturday morning, sending it to overturn and leak the oil onto a Bangkok Road.

Rescue workers prevented the oil tank from busting by spraying foam on the leaked oil and the tank.

Pol Lt Sitthichai Sopha of Bang Plad police station said the accident occurred 5:30 am on Charansanitwongse Road on the mouth of Soi Charansanitwongse 95/1.

The 18-wheel truck driver, Jamkad Nimsakult, 51, was stuck inside his vehicle after his truck hit into the rear of the oil tank.

He was rushed to the Wachira Hospital where doctors amputated his left leg as the bone had been crushed.

Rescuers took about two hours to salvage the oil tank and clear up the road.

The oil tank driver, Ke Maput, 32, told police that the truck hit his vehicle after he made a u-turn.

Sitthichai said police had yet to interrogate the truck driver before deciding who would be held responsible for the accident.
