It was defiantly political on the red shirt side. they were trying to prevent people with different political views than them from legally expressing them. They did it in the only way they know how violently. Well that could be debatable they might have been paid to do it.

Where in the monk's code of conduct does it allow berating and making impolite remarks. Reports of monks molesting children, selling drugs, etc. are commonplace in Thailand. This monk was not acting like a monk & therefore was not treated like a monk. I suppose he was a monk from the Luang Pu Issara school of monk hood, i.e. leading a heavily armed group of terrorists to break the law on a daily basis.

The PDRC have been regularly beating up people, tying them up, throwing them in rivers, .... Buddhists know well that monks get respect because of their commitment to living withing the code of conduct for a monk. Once they step outside that they are looked on with disdain and seen as bringing the monkhood into disrepute, which unfortunately happens often. As with Luang Pu this man's robes are no excuse for his behaviour.

I hope the monk has filed charges against his assailants. It shouldn't be too difficult for the police to identify some of them from the video. The red shirts are using the copy book of the former military junta in Burma by attacking Buddhist monks who oppose them peacefully. If it was only one red shirt, he would have run away from the monk. They need a dog pack with hand guns sticking out of their waste belts to feel brave enough to attack a monk. What scum.

Over the past 6 years, due to circumstances, I've met quite a few of the men in saffron, and can honestly say that I have little to no respect for them. They wouldn't know Buddhism if it slapped them in the face. I'm sure there are some "real" ones out there, I just haven't met them yet.

But now I stay in a Buddhist Wat as grassroots doctor with traditional medicin.

Unfortunately this is what happens when a minority attempt to impose their will on the majority. Many of us has been saying that the end game would be a red shirt back lash since practically the start of the anti-democracy protests. Unless the Army acts and removes Sutheps mob, it is likely to get a lot worse. As for the incident itself, it is very sad to see a monk being attacked, but those of us who have lived here long enough, know that when violence starts, ethics completely go out the window. Crikey I have seen videos of half a dozen men and women kicking a young woman when she is on the floor. Luckily the monk seems ok. But really monks should not be involved in demonstrations, it is playing with fire.
