Interesting that now consumers are going to see a 12 - 25% rise in the cost of basic ready meals at the food court. Lets just hope those figures are not indicative of the overall level of inflation

Their slow. Our office building's food court already raised prices by this much a few month's ago. They said food costs have been going up.

5-10 bht on a meal, you can cook a lot of meals on one

bottle gas, plus they also make the meals smaller,you

are going to have to buy 2 to be satisfied.

Price of bread went up 3 bht yesterday,thats about 8%

rise, what rate does government quote ,2% inflation,or

is that growth,both blatant lies

Here in Pattaya the cheapest dishes cost already 40 Baht and this started 1 year ago.

Why politicians all over the world are lying all the time?

Its a required requisite of the job!

So how about some empathy for the poor thai's operating those food stalls.

Not just for them. A liter of Diesel oil 13 years go was around ten baht/liter. A kg of pork around 25 baht. It's not just a problem for Thais, as it's also affecting foreigners with Thai families.

Nowadays, we think twice it we eat out, living on a teacher's salary.

Price increases must be in the neighborhood of 10 % per year.

I am confident, that the "official" inflation-rate will still come out between 2-3 %.

Why would the government be involved in price fixing anyway, I think that a good lawyer could even bring down a whole government on this issue.

Only a vendor should be able to set his price, for a meal, then it's up to the consumers if they buy it or not.

This looks like a fixing-scheme to me....

Bit crazy to compair, we all know that foreign imported products in Thailand are high on taxes, and to list michelin tyres, Nike shoes, Hilton Hotel and Samsung S4 in this list seems more like wanting to put the Thais down than a real independent finding.

Indeed, everyone's own personal inflation rate depends on their lifestyle, and even the official figures cannot hide what is really going on.

All the indices were rebased to 100 as the average of 2011 - this means the numbers in the very first column, March 2014, show percentage changes in the last 2 years and 3 months.

Food has increased on average about 11%, raw food about 13%, so that retail and wholesale are more or less in line - even tobacco and booze have gone up about the same. However, energy has gone up 15% and fuel and utilities up the most at over 22%. Yes, this is over a period of slightly over 2 years, but the above perception of price increases of about 10% per year is not far off.

So, apart from the minimum wage hike, inflation is being imported through higher energy costs - those pesky foreigners again!

So how can the official headline inflation figures always seem to be so low? Well, housing, clothing, public transport and mobile phones have seen little price increases... and make up about 50% of the index! Smart, perhaps, but obvious.

Well this will hit the people that PTP claim to be the champions of the hardest.
