Crime Gold Robbery in Lamphun Market Sparks Police Manhunt

A manhunt is under way in Lamphun, after a brazen gold robbery took place in broad daylight at a jewellery shop in the heart of Pa Sang Market, Lamphun province, on 6 June. The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 at the Yaowarat Gold Shop, located on the Lamphun–Li Road in Moo 1, Pa Sang District. Officers at Pa Sang Police Station were alerted to the theft and responded swiftly. Deputy Inspector Pol. Lt. Thanapon Supacharunon led a team of investigators from both the Pa Sang Police Station and Lamphun Provincial Police to the scene. According to initial reports, the suspect is described as a stocky male, approximately 160–165 centimetres tall. He was dressed in a long-sleeved blue shirt, jeans, a black cap, and a face mask and was riding a black Yamaha Mio motorcycle. Staff at the shop reported that the suspect initially asked to see a 3-baht gold necklace, then requested to view two additional necklaces weighing 5 baht each. While pretending to compare their weight, he queried why they appeared different in size. The staff explained that one necklace was solid while the other was hollow. Seizing the moment, the man suddenly ran from the shop with the necklaces in hand and fled the scene on his motorbike. He was last seen heading along the Pa Sang–Mae Raeng Road before turning into a small lane near a local snooker hall. A food delivery rider and a member of the public attempted to give chase, but were unable to catch him. It is believed the suspect may have escaped towards the Ping River area, entering neighbouring San Pa Tong District in Chiang Mai province. Police are currently examining CCTV footage from nearby businesses and along the suspected escape route in an effort to identify and locate the perpetrator. Community Police Officer’s Suicide at Home – Leaves Farewell Letter Requesting Forgiveness
Picture courtesy of Naewna A high-ranking police officer in Roi Et province has died from suicide at his residence, leaving behind a handwritten letter requesting forgiveness and providing final instructions to loved ones. The incident occurred on the morning of 6 June 2025 at approximately 07:50, when Pol. Lt. Thanyawit Phanthura, Deputy Inspector of Phanom Phrai Police Station, received a report from the station’s radio centre regarding a self-inflicted gunshot incident at a private residence in Phanom Phrai district. Upon receiving the report, Pol. Lt. Thanyawit promptly informed his superiors. He was joined at the scene by senior officers, including Pol. Col. Ratchaphong Nampatsa (Superintendent of Phanom Phrai Police Station), Pol. Lt. Col. Nipon Wandee-si, Pol. Lt. Col. Mongkhon Phanadon (both investigators), as well as a team of uniformed and plain-clothed officers. They were accompanied by doctors from Phanom Phrai Hospital and volunteers from the Udomwate Rescue Unit. The scene was a two-storey private residence. Inside the living room on the ground floor, officers found the body of a Pol. Lt. Col. [Name withheld], who held the position of Deputy Superintendent (Investigation). He was dressed in a T-shirt and sports shorts, lying motionless with his body extended across the armrest of a sofa. His right hand was gripping a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, which still had a live round chambered. A wound was found on the right temple, with the bullet exiting through the left side of his head. A spent shell casing was located roughly two metres from the body. A bullet hole was observed on the left armrest of the sofa, with the projectile later found on the stairwell after ricocheting off the banister. Blood stains were visible on the floor behind the sofa, while a suicide note was discovered in front of the deceased. The letter, written in the officer’s own hand, outlined 11 specific points, one of which was a request for “Ahosikarma” – a plea for spiritual forgiveness. Police forensic investigators from Roi Et province, along with hospital staff, completed a thorough examination of the scene. Authorities are now compiling witness testimony and evidence in accordance with legal procedures. The motive behind the officer’s decision to end his life remains unclear, and police have yet to disclose the contents of the remaining items in the farewell letter. The investigation is ongoing.
