Thai investors advised to do research before entering new markets

PNECO570425001000201_25042014_110605.jpg

BANGKOK, 25 April 2014 (NNT) – Thai investors have been advised to study and gather information needed to penetrate new markets, especially in Muslim countries.

As the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is closing in, the Thai Board of Investment (BOI) has voiced concern about Thai investors going into a Muslim market without basic knowledge of its culture. The BOI strongly advised that Thai investors should thoroughly study the rules and regulations of Islamic countries, as they normally have relatively high restrictions. Some of these countries include Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei.

However, the BOI said Thai small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) have a high competitive potential compared to other nations in South East Asia, adding that Thailand is still wide open for more investments, especially in logistics and service industries.

According to the latest survey, most investments made in Thailand are processed food, agricultural goods, appliances, and electronics.

Thai herbal products to be developed for international market

PNECO570425001000601_25042014_010042.jpg

BANGKOK, 25 April 2014 (NNT) -- The National Innovation Agency (NIA) has initiated the idea of developing potential Thai herbal products for the international market.

According to the NIA director Supachai Lorlohakarn, demands for herbal products, in both local and international markets, have been steadily growing in recent years thanks to concerns over the effects of chemicals on health. The increasing demand for anti-inflammatory herbal products offers new opportunities to Thailand.

Thailand has varieties of herbs that can be used as raw materials for anti-inflammotory agents, such as mongosteen, mulberry and turmeric. With the modern technologies the nation has developed, Supachai is confident that Thailand will soon be able to export its herbal products to the global market, said Supachai.

Currently, NIA is in talk with local producers to set up a scheme to pick up potential herbs and develop them to be the country's flagship products in the near future.
