Sakoltee Phattiyakul, a leader of the anti-government People

BANGKOK: -- Says he didn't know arrest warrant had been issued, after return from the US

A leader of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) was detained for about 12 hours by police yesterday after returning from a trip to the United States.

Sakoltee Phattiyakul was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning when he landed at Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

He was detained by Immigration Police on charges that include blocking government offices and treason.

Sakoltee claimed he was not aware an arrest warrant had been issued for him and after being detained and questioned for about 12 hours, he was granted bail after posting Bt600,000 on the condition that he will not lead protesters to block government offices again.

Leader of the PDRC stage at Asoke intersection, Sakoltee left for the United States on personal business on April 16.

He told reporters that there was nothing unusual about his departure and he was not apprehended.

He said if he had wanted to flee, he would not have returned to Thailand.

Other charges against Sakoltee, 37, include trespassing at government offices, leading protesters to surround government offices, joining a political gathering of more than 10 people in violation of the emergency decree, inciting people to violate the law, and wanting to unlawfully overthrow the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

All the charges were flatly denied by Sakoltee.

Police investigators earlier sought permission from the Criminal Court to detain him for 12 days, adding that there were 120 people who still had be questioned by police in relation to the charges against Sakoltee.

Police said Sakoltee led the blockade of Thai PBS, Thailand's public television station, and had threatened to use force.

Judges granted Sakoltee bail after PDRC lawyer Rasamee Vainaet posted bail of Bt600,000 and told the judges that Sakoltee had always protested peacefully and without arms.

The lawyer also noted that Sakoltee had shown no intent to flee.

The court forbade Sakoltee from leaving the country unless granted permission. The court also ordered him not to incite violence or lead protesters to close or besiege government offices again as key conditions of his bail.

Sakoltee told reporters he was just unlucky to be detained and that he would be attending the PDRC rally again although he had to be careful so he did not break his bail conditions.

He left the Criminal Court at 1pm in a Range Rover and was given a bouquet of flowers after being released.

In a related development, chief of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Tharit Pengdit said the reason why Sakoltee was not arrested leaving the Kingdom

was likely the result of online information not being synchronised well enough.

DSI expert for special cases Pol Major Yutthana Praedum added that the DSI was not aware if the case had been forwarded to the department by Pak Kret police already.

So what did arresting him actually achieve? What's the point?

A new hero for 2,000 people in Lumpini. Maybe that will distract some spotlight from Suthep and that will piss him off!

Court grants bail for PDRC co-leader

BANGKOK: The Criminal Court on Saturday granted bail to Sakoltee Phattiyakul after he was arrested by immigration police on his return to Thailand from the United States.

Under the conditions of his 600,000-baht bail, Mr Sakoltee, 37, is not allowed to leave the country or take part in activities to incite instability.

Even though he was facing an arrest warrant, the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) co-leader had managed to leave the country.

Immigration police detained him after he returned from the United States via South Korea at 11.30pm on Friday.

He faces charges of trespassing at government offices, obstructing elections and insurrection. More charges will likely to be filed.

One possible additional charge relates to blocking the voided general election on Feb 2, said Tarit Pengdith, the head of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

Mr Sakoltee has denied all the charges.

The DSI issued the arrest warrant after Mr Sakoltee and other protesters blocked Software Park on Chaeng Watthana Road in Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi.

The warrant was issued by the Pak Kret police station on March 25 and the case was forwarded to the DSI on April 9.

Mr Sakoltee said he was not aware that he was on the wanted list when he left Bangkok for the US on April 16, saying that he only knew that police had summoned him for talks.

His trip abroad raised questions about why he was not detained at the airport immediately when he attempted to depart the country on April 16.

Mr Tarit said he did not want to point fingers at any agency. The warrant might not have been in the computerised system when Mr Sakoltee checked in at the airport, he added.

Mr Tarit, who is the secretary-general of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order, warned that the centre would go after other protesters under the arrest warrants.

Pol Maj Yutthana Phraedum, a special case officer of the DSI, admitted that his agency did not know that Mr Sakoltee was under the arrest warrant until the DSI was alerted by the Immigration Bureau.

Mr Sakoltee is a son of Gen Winai Phattiyakul, a former defence permanent secretary and secretary-general of the Council of National Security, the body set up to run the country after the 2006 coup.

Ah my question answered. He wasn't stopped on departure because the DSI is incompetent and unable to use the Internet to preform the most basic of tasks.

You know, I find that incredibly easy to believe.

hahaha well done dsi...top club to be in me thinks...its always these topics along with the exciting rice one which are devoid of the red rouge silly club..why pray tell

Arrested PDRC man thanks the Criminal Court for granting him bail

BANGKOK, 27 April 2014, (NNT) - Mr. Sakoltee Phattiyakul, a co-leader of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), has expressed his gratitude to the Criminal Court for releasing him on bail of 600,000 baht yesterday, just one day after his arrest, on the condition that he not leave the country nor engage in activities that foment divisions in society.

The comment was made on his online media page shortly after his release. The officials arrested him on Friday on charges of insurrection, trespassing, inciting unrest and obstructing an election.

In his Facebook message, Mr. Sakoltee thanked all who gave him moral support, while promising to continue his fight for the good of the public.

The PDRC co-leader had been detained in a Criminal Court cell after his arrest at Subvarnabhumi Airport when he arrived on a flight from South Korea on Friday night. He has denied all charges. The court subsequently granted Mr. Sakoltee bail, having decided that the defendant is not likely to flee the country. He is however obliged to report to the court on June 13th for further processing of his case.

The Director General of the Department of Special Investigation Tharit Pengdit, told the media that the bail does not present any detriment to the progress of the case, adding that his agency would submit related documents to the prosecutor on May 1st.

PT Disappointed By Anti-Govt Leader's Bail Release

By Khaosod Eng.

13985930111398593040l.jpg

BANGKOK — The ruling Pheu Thai Party has expressed disappointment over the court's decision to release an arrested anti-government protest leader on bail.

Sakoltee Phattiyakul, a core leader of the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD), was arrested yesterday at an immigration checkpoint in Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport on charges of insurrection and unlawful intrusion into public buildings.

The charges against Mr. Sakoltee were pressed by the Centre for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) .

The court has granted Mr. Sakoltee a temporary release to fight his charges, placing his bail at 600,000 baht.. However, Mr. Sakoltee is prohibited from participating in future PCAD rallies or attempting to leave the country under the conditions of his bail release.

Anusorn Iamsa-ard, deputy spokesperson of Pheu Thai Party, said in a press conference yesterday that his party is deeply disappointed to see Mr. Sakoltee on a temporary release given that he has been charged for numerous severe offences, including insurrection against the administration.

Mr. Anusorn also claimed that Mr. Sakoltee's release will allow him to participate in the next mass PCAD rally.

"We have received intelligence that PCAD will relocate its rally from Lumpini Park to Ratchadamnoen Avenue, or maybe even escalate into a massive rally to 'shutdown' Bangkok on 30 April," Mr. Anusorn said. "Mr. Sakoltee might join these campaigns."

He added, "People do not wish to see such prominent wrongdoers have the privilege of bail release."

Ahhhh right.

But it is OK for Jatuporn and Nattawut to get their bail at a much lower bond value for offenses far worse than any PDRC infraction?

Ordering to burn down BKK and destroy the elites and declaring war on the army that saw soldiers being shot and murdered by their red followers as well as POLICE!!!!!.... That is OK yes?

They have stood on a stage while on bail for TERRORISM and declared the building of an army of 200,000 to 500,000 armed red shirts to march on the capital if justice is served to this government... but that is fine I suppose.

PTP make themselves look like complete immature hypocritical fools sometimes and I wouldn't be surprised if Jat and Nat both come out and criticize this..... That is how stupid and hypocritical THEY ALL ARE!!!

I didn't know Thai court works on Saturday. Nice to know that the court work 24 7 if you have money.

If CAPO can not hold one of the PDRC leaders after an easy arrest it makes a real mockery of plans to use special forces to arrest PRDC leaders and shows how pointless the risks that would be attached to such an action.

Give me a break. Did they complain when Jatuporn was released on bail? No! Did they complain when Jatuporn's bail wasn't revoked (when it seems he broke his bail conditions, multiple times)? No! At least try to be consistent. If you don't want people that have been charged out on bail, then oppose it consistently. It will never happen.

I wonder how those Thais who have lost their livelihoods because of this latest fiasco think of Sakoltee's bit of R+R in the States to catch up on a bit of NASCAR.

Yes how dare the courts treat him this way. Do they not realise that the law is what PT says it is? Do they not understand that it is not for the courts or judicial system to decide on guilt or innocence, that role is PT's alone. Absolutely disgraceful actions by the court, how dare they apply the law fairly and correctly.

Something like rice farmers who are losing their farms cause they have not been paid while Yingluck is on holiday .... and too busy to do all sorts of things.

So what did arresting him actually achieve? What's the point?

Actually, it showed that the PDRC will use nepotism and call Daddy to subvert rule of law, even though it says it wants to get rid of this. So in a way, it DID achieve something. It showed the massive hypocrisy of the corrupt Mr Suthep and his band of Daddy's boys like Sakoltee who phone their connected friends and families to get them off the hook and get special treatment. "Reform before elections". 555555

.

He'd probably pay less bail for rape and murder than protesting, what a <deleted> up country

What a crock of shy-te

Where in any news reports has it pointed out that phone calls were made to influential figures to swing his bail????

Nowhere apart from inside your biased and twisted tiny red brain.

It was in fact his lawyers who secured his bail, which you would expect in any case in any country on the planet.... nothing more than natural and default procedures in law.

They woul;d have pointed out and cited the bail for Natt and Jatt, and the court would NOT want to be accused of double standards..... would they lame brain???

If you want to focus on REAL hypocrisy, I will remind all of you red devils that PTP have constantly complained that the courts have been applying double standards, and now here they are complaining because the courts ARE NOT applying double standards......THAT IS REAL HYPOCRISY.

And another case that will be finalised in 2025!!....maybe...smile.png)

Fast tracked ?

Wonder if the judge granting bail for insurrection, occupation of gov't offices, attacking media stations, etc. etc. has the same last name of Phattiyakul? Nice to keep the relatives out of jail and definitely do not deny bail to what would be known as a "terrorist" in any other country. There is a pattern here been noticing that each and every PDRC leader who has been captured has been released on bail. That is 100% of them for some reason, and if you and I had done 1% of what they had done during these so-called peaceful protests with PDRC guards carrying weapons and shooting now at a military officer wounding him after beating him to a pulp, we would be hanged from the highest tree in 5 mins. This is the Thai Rule of Law!!!

Oh you are a drama Queen lol

Doesn't matter what surname the Judge has, he applied the same principles for granting bail as with Jatuporn and Nattawat. Or was that decision wrong also and disgusting and a travesty? You can't have it both ways (or rather you can't just have it all PT's way).
