April 28, 201411 yr Yhe point is that the OPs friends debts are written off. And that will help ease his mind. The banks took the risk loaning him the money in the first place but thats another topic.
April 28, 201411 yr Popular Post Why would or should anyone help someone who obviously does not care about anyone else and simply runs away from his problems (debt)? It sounds like he ended up with what he deserved (nothing)!
April 28, 201411 yr Debts become statute barred after 6 years in England and Wales and 5 years in Scotland.
April 28, 201411 yr Just curious, but can't the British Embassy help with such cases? No need for a whip around to pay for a one-way ticket home. No need to fund the 20K for overstay. If the British Embassy refuse to help their own citizens (I somehow doubt that), then I would go to Thai Immigration and explain I'm destitute on overstay - might end up in the pokey for a few weeks until the British gov are forced to do something. What does he expect - a holiday camp?
April 28, 201411 yr Popular Post 7 years is the limit in the uk for credit card debt. But remember he doesn't owe the original bank anything. This would of been sold on to various debt collectors to attempt to collect payment. The bank would of sold the debt a long long time ago. Oh and I have more sympathy for the guy than i have in my little finger for banking system that make billions by overcharging and useing other peoples money to make the billion dollar profits. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app So are you condoning such behavior of " getting back at the banks?" so if every one will think and act like you think, what will be left of our banking system? could we ever be trusted by the banks again for any credit what so ever? You mean the same banks the uk tax payer bailed out for hundreds of millions of pounds ! I have no problem at all with what he did and ive paid the addional interest on loans ive totally repaid. Just wish id of done the same before arriving here many many years ago. And may I point out the money they lend is not theirs , its mine and many others that hold accounts in any given bank that have positive balances. I repeat they use mine and other peoples money for their own gains ! Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

It's there to represent the British government in Thailand not act as a charity for the indolent and the stupid.
April 28, 201411 yr Im sorry cant help Banzai , i hope someone can . Please members lets not go after this guy about blowing his cash etc.etc. some positive advice would be nice just wish i could hand some out. Gl to your friend OP hope it turns out ok. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Why would you want to wish good luck to a common thief and fraudster. There is no badge of honour in screwing credit card companies for a debt that the rest of us honest citizens finish up paying for. People like this are irresponsible and the dregs of society. He must be very proud that after 63 years of his life he cannot afford a pot to p!ss in. He screwed up, of that, there is no doubt, but that's life. Do you know if there is a facility at Heathrow to help the people who return with nothing ? You seem to be a very soft-hearted person, which is to your credit of course. But reading your words...'that's life' - no it's not, it is His life. Second, your question about a 'FACILITY' to help people who return with nothing - what a weird idea that is. Why should there be such a 'facility' ? Do you think that the British electorate would vote for it if they were offered a referendum on it ? However, believe it or not i'm a softie as well, so my suggestion is an old-time one - the Salvation Army - use the 'net to find the nearest branch to Heathrow. I subscribe to them financially - not much, but it helps a bit. Wishing him a lot of luck - he's going to need it.

April 28, 201411 yr The guy was 45 when he came to Thailand. What's he lived on for 18 years? Even if he had 10 credit cards (unlikely) and got say 5,000 quid (unlikely) off each one, that's not going to stretch anywhere near 18 years. He can't have worked here if he's had no visa or work permit. And he sounds like the sort of chap who will have dilligently renewed his passport...not. I think he should go live under the OP's bridge with him.
April 28, 201411 yr I thought if it was fraud on credit cards there was no time limit? Now if it was a case of got in over your head I think there is a limit but out right fraud like charging all cards to max then running off they might still come get him.

April 28, 201411 yr Maybe he could earn some money by doing a few lecture tours as an inspirational key note speaker....bahhahahahaha
April 28, 201411 yr I think he would be better to fake a heart attack and go to hospital than jail. Or become mentally unstable and get a nice bed in a home with a garden view. Or go out in style...stand in middle of piccadilly naked and run around shouting I've got a big bomb up my arrse... I'm not familiar with that "style." Whom do you think would be impressed? Unless you meant he really would be concealing the bomb . . .

April 28, 201411 yr I am just curious: wouldn't his life be better in Thailand, than back in England? This is a genuine question. No bashing is needed as I am not from England.
April 28, 201411 yr I have spoken and dealt with the British Embassy in Bangkok if you can raise the money they will book your ticket back to the UK, on the day of returning you turn up at the IDC with your flight ticket money and 11.800baht for your visa overstay then they escort you to the aiport as a deportee, this I know 100%,
