Z2, S5 or M8?

Featured Replies

I need a new phone and have narrowed my choice down to these three models.

I have a Galaxy S2 and have been satisfied with it until recently. I have searhed the market and as mentioned am now looking at these three.

The S5 is here and readily available but I feel I want to change from Samsung. I saw an advert in Bangkok Post today for the Z2 so it must be here now or coming soon. (Every time I ask about release date I get "next month, next month")

I have seen that the M8 is also on the doorsteps but the Z2 appears to have better specs.

Has anyone seen the Z2 and what is the price?

Oh really?

I guess we have different views.

Thanks for your helpful input anyway.

I am pretty sure all three of these phones are widely available here, now.

If you are in Bangkok you could go to the Mobile Expo, or pretty much any larger retailer like Jaymart, TGfone, etc to get a hands-on feel for these models.

Some mobile service providers might also have decent bundles, with services discounted up to 50%.

Thanks for the links.

I know the specs. for all the models but I'd like to get my hands on them.

I asked one shop about the Z2 and he told me it "was sold out". I write in quotes because I then went to a Sony dealer and he told me that it hasn't been released yet and will be released on the 18th.

I don't know which on is correct.

Anyway I'll keep searching.

I am also trying to decide between S5 and Z1 or Z2, leaning more towards the Sony at the moment, great looking phones but waiting for stock and price of the Z2 here on Samui before I decide, might just go for the Z1 as it's not much different to the Z2 and my current S4 is just about to die so cant wait much longer.

I don't know when/if it will be available in Thailand, but the Oneplus One has a similar sand a much lower price.

I wait for HTC M8 mini2 or Galaxy S5 Mini, because the size is close to my soon to be retired SGS2.

HTC M8 mini2 will get much better camera, than it's bigger brother.

Screen size 5'0 or more is to big to handle comfortable with 1 hand.

Have you looked at the Nexus 5?

Yes I must admit it looks good and is considerably cheaper.

The camera is not so important for me but I have heard that it isn't very good.

One of the reasons I am looking at the Z2 is the extra 1 Gb of ram. I am still using a Galaxy S2 and ram is one of the problems with it. I also like the idea of the noise reduction.

Deleted. Double posting.

Any delivery date?

My SGS2 is just about finished. I have restored factory settings, deleted apps but still often hangs or shuts down.

Quarter 3 I was told, but who knows.

Mine have been used 24/7. No problems whatsoever.

Visit a service center and ask them to upgrade / reinstall your Android version, takes 20 minutes.

GT-I9100 Android 4.1.2 Baseband version I9100DXLS8 works perfect for me

Edit: I also use a Samsung Galaxy Win GT-I8552 4'7 inch and many times I must use 2 hands.

So consider how big screen size you feel comfortable with, for me the limit is 4'5

I am pretty sure I saw a Z2 in MBK. I have 2GB in my current phone (Sony Xperia Z Ultra), honestly it is enough. Best have a look at the phones, the Z2 and M8 are a fair bit bigger and heavier than the S5.

I spent some time looking at the comparison videos on Youtube because i want to move from Iphone, all 3 have different pro and cons but i wittled it down to the Z2, process of elimination was a: the HTC only have 4mp camera and isnt waterproof, samsung s5 back is flimsey, its waterproof ike the Z2 but there is a flap you need to keeping opening/closing to charger phone, Z2 looks cooler and well made.

Winner Z2

Samsung S5 PRIME coming.

HTC M8 mini2 13mp cam.

Winner ?

be aware the Z2 also has flaps for the USB ports etc. - it's just that it also has charging ports that you can use if you buy the charging dock as well. One issue with Thailand is that the Sony stores don't seem to stock the charging docks for some models (e.g. they will sell you the ZR but don't have the ZR's charging dock). I don't know about whether they have the Z2 dock. If you don't get that you'll need to keep opening/closing flaps to charge as well.
