AoT open for service as normal, under martial law

BANGKOK, 20 May 2014 (NNT) - Airports of Thailand Plc. (AoT) has confirmed that the declaration of martial law does not affect its services. However, AoT officials have been ordered to closely monitor the situation and operate with full functionality.

The AoT Director Mekin Petplai said that after martial law was announced across the crisis-gripped kingdom at 03.00, the company still continued operations as normal. However, an additional number of staff was assigned to support each of the six airports and to closely monitor the situation in order to communicate with its passengers immediately in case of urgency.

The number of passengers in Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi airports has been in decline for a while due to the internal political crisis, therefore, martial law in Thailand should not have any further negative impact but at least maintain the situation as it is.

So the rumour about the Thai Airways union staff taking a mass holiday on Thursday is not worth worrying about?

"The chairman of Thai Airways International's union, Somsak Manop, said all 15,000 unionists, almost the entire THAI staff, could be asking to take leave en masse from May 22-26. The en masse leave would go ahead if a PDRC campaign to seek out Cabinet members and encourage them to resign did not work. The so-called hunt for the ministers will be launched today, and Somsak said some THAI union members might take part in it."

Next week I will need to take the shuttle bus from Suwarnabumi airport to Don Muang airport. Does anyone here have a clue as to whether this bus is operating normally ? Anyone took it in the last few days ? Thanks for any relevant information if you have it.
