Explosive Ordance Disposal units of the police and the navy were rushed to Soi 2 of North Pattaya road after they were alerted of two suspicious devices believed to be bombs. The suspicious devices were made up of two PVC pipes with electric wires and circuits bound together with tapes. The EOD men then used old car tyres to cover them up, cut off telephone signal in the area and then used a high-powered water cannon to destroy their detonating mechanisms.Pol Maj-Gen Thanet Pinmuang-ngarm, deputy commissioner of the Second Region Provincial Police, said that IEDs might have been abandoned by some people who were afraid they could be punished if they continued to keep them in possession after June 10.The NCPO has asked those who have in their possession war weapons and explosives to surrender them to the authorities within Tuesday otherwise they will face harsh punishments. webfact
Pipe-Bomb found in North Pattaya streetPATTAYA: -- As the Weapons Amnesty deadline approaches more explosive devices are being found on the streets of Pattaya and on Saturday afternoon a PVC Pipe-Bomb was found on a North Pattaya street.Police called the Royal Thai Navy Bomb Disposal Unit who dispatched a team to the scene in Soi 2 off the North Pattaya Road. They inspected a device consisting of two small PVC pipes taped together. Attached to them was an electrical circuit board which may have allowed for detonation via a mobile phone. The road was closed and a 100 meter long cordon was set-up around the device. A Navy Officer in full protective gear approached the device and it was decided to use a high pressure water jet to destroy the device before it was taken away for safe disposal.Full story: http://www.pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/130901/pipe-bomb-found-in-north-pattaya-street/ -- Pattaya One 2014-06-
GeorgeO
More lives saved by the coup. People bang on about freedom of speech, even though our speech is still relatively free.... Yet it is a small price to pay for 'freedom for people to live without being blown apart for exercising freedom of speech'. It also seems that the weapons amnesty is leading people to reconsider their previous positions, which, I believe will probably lead to huge numbers of sudden appearances of weapons and explosives out on the streets just before the amnesty deadline. If any of the extremists decide to hang on to their war weapons, then they will leave themselves open to long prison terms if they are subsequently found in possession of them. Hats off to Gen. Prayuth in every area that he is involved in, which of course now includes a clean-up of the economic mess that the previous incumbents left behind...!!

than
I'm doubt about the explosive device have been abandoned. Why abandoned a well functioning explosive device without neutralize it before and remove detonator ? Why abandoned explosive device if you know it could be" accidentally " explode ? Morch
I'm doubt about the explosive device have been abandoned. Why abandoned a well functioning explosive device without neutralize it before and remove detonator ? Why abandoned explosive device if you know it could be" accidentally " explode ? From the linked article: Although the discovery of the device was played-down by Police, some at the scene believe the device was left at the location to cause intentional disruption and there is speculation that an individual or group opposed to the Coup may have left the device there. Unless the was some sort of anonymous message to the police beforehand, it does seem odd to just leave a bomb out there, hoping it will be found by security forces and disregarding the danger it poses to the public. Then again - TIT, people here do not always apply what passes for logic when safety or consequences of actions are concerned.
