I guarantee anyone will get used to the gear shift pattern inside ONE HALF DAY'S full riding. All the Waves, KSR's have an all up or all down shift pattern. Alternating between my Triumph (right foot shift) and my Guzzi (left foot shift) is no big deal. You get used to it before you've gone a couple of kms down the road.

Agreed,I sometimes use the other halfs Spark and forget it's all down. My Triumph in the UK is left hand change, the others were all right hand, not a problem.

Just can't get used all down,is the newer X-cross all down?.

MAZ3 , when i looked at the X-Cross and the X-Plore , i was informed by the wife of the boss in the Chiang Mai Lifan dealership , that the newer X-Plore had a more powerfull engine , and a 1-down , 4-up ( 5 speed) gearbox . There is a sticker on the side of the gearbox , showing the gearchange pattern , but i cant remember if its the same as the "all down" X-Cross or the "correct" pattern - sorry . Due to reports of this shops servicing standards , i went elsewhere and bought a Platinum PX 250 . Richard in Bangkok , kindly provided the part numbers for a conversion , but it seems people have encountered problems with Lifan HQ confirming what parts are needed . I hired a Lifan for 4 weeks last year , great bike for the price , but i had to think about almost every gearchange , and got it wrong several times .I dont ride wave type bikes , and besides , my other bikes all have the "correct" pattern changes , but an old Montessa does have the gearchange on the right-hand side .

Thanks for the info and to Papa[emoji106]

I popped into the Chinese motorbike shop in Kanchanaburi yesterday, but no Cross/trial bikes in stock. They did have some a few months, but must have sold them. I'll look elsewhere.

Cheers

The X-Plore is the motard version with 17" rims and sticky rubber. It does indeed have a "normal" gear shift pattern, ie different to the X Cross (18/21" rims). It also has a different ex. system with a cat in it and a lighter go-faster end can, a digital rather than analogue speedo, but the SAME OHV motor, but for some reason a different stator and clutch outer cover.

Is that the one on the left just before the night market on the way into town?

They can get the Keeway Tx200 which imo is better than the Lifan. Think it was 59k bht.

Yes,Yamaha Squares next door.

Is that the only Chinese bike shop?,I've not seen any others.

I did look at some bikes there a few months ago,but can't remember which models they had. I'm in no rush, hopefully they will get more stock in.

I want to at least sit on it for size(I'm 6'1 and 108k),unlikely any test rides?.

Thanks Gents

It's the only halfway decent shop in Kan :) and has certainly outlived all the other ones.

There is another bike shop I saw last year that had the Keeway tx200 outside. I was on the way to Mae Sot for a visa run and can't remember if it is was a town before or after Sam Chuk but if you are ever heading north on the 340 look for a shop on the left in the vicinity :)

Otherwise it's a trip to the large dealer in BKK.

Thanks again, also there was a mechanic working there, who looked liked he actually knew what he was doing!. Valve clearances etc.

I'll have to ask them when their next stock is in.

thaiguzzi , thanks for confirming the gearchange pattern . Thought they were different but wasnt sure . The X-Plore (IMO) would be my pick , based on the normal pattern ,and other better features , then simply order a second set of 21"/18" wheels / discs from Lifan . Two bikes in one . Wonder what price you could get this set-up for , from the well priced dealer . X-Plore is normally 1,000 / 2,000 Baht more than the X-Cross .

X-Plore has wavy petal discs too, and possibly the 17" rims are aluminium. I think the price difference is about 4k. But if i had a supermoto style bike (not my cup of tea), i'd want a bit more, in fact a lot more than 15-16bhp.

I think the X-Plore has many nicer features , gearchange pattern , wavy / petal discs , alloy silencer ( i dont think papa likes this , yes ) sharper front/rear fender styling and a LCD dash . 4,000 Baht more , what can your dealer get it for you ? . My Platinum PX 250 ( 233cc ) has 17 BHP and is quick enougth to be fun .Dont forget a Honda CRF puts out 18 rear BHP .

Er, the CRF...

555 . Sorry , im easily confused . facepalm.gif . Yes , the CRF engine is more technicaly advanced . Whether its worth over twice the price of the Lifab bike/s is another topic .

Here is the touring Lifan Cross with side boxes, a skid plate, grip guards, and a wind screen. This is the guy I bought my new engine from. He loves Lifan's and can get you any custom part you need. He ships right to your door, and his prices are good.

2.5 years on and over 60,000 and basically am having to replace all things electric.

New starter, new battery (and to the guy with the battery problem thread, shop wanted to charge me 1,400 for proper sized stock battery, went elsewhere for same voltage specs, battery was smaller so the mechanic stuffed styrofoam in to make it fit, all said and done 700thb), new magneto.

Also mileage odometer toast, have tried to have that fixed and have given up. Sort of a drag as there is no fuel gauge so that is what I used to use.

So there's the update, looks like electric is the first thing that gives out.

Odo is mechanical, not electrical.

Once fuel level gets low and engine starves, flip valve to reserve setting and carry on.

What is the cost of starter and magneto?

Understood on the odo, just was commenting on that was out too. Confusing writing on my part as I lumped it in with electrical matters.

Can't recall the starter price, magneto was 1,350.

This is a great idea.

Bet second set would run less than $300.

Maybe $250.

Okay.

papa is unclear where one can find a dealer (outside Chiangmai )

who actually stocks recently minted Crosses\X-plores.

Not Pattaya.

One thing to consider if you do that is that the seat height is higher on the Xplore, than the Xcross, put bigger wheels on it and you will need stilts to get on it and then suffer from vertigo. Also think about the gearing, which is going the wrong way too, though that can be solved with two sets of sprockets.

Posted

Could leave rear wheel same diameter, only change front to 21"',

and raise the forks in the triple clamp

to mitigate gate seat height challenges.

I think Lifan want you to buy two bikes, I didn't like the Xplore, it felt odd and looked odd too. It felt smaller, I am not saying it was though, have to check.

The Cross is a nicely proportioned bike, the Xcross isn't IMO.
