Uruguay vs England - Fri 20 June, 02:00 am, - Match Thread

As for Rooney give 45mins, if he doesn't perform, he doesn't come out for the second half.

45 minutes wasted. Put him on the bench, if the rest can't do the bizzo, bring him on after 60 mins or so

He is still a world class player when he turns up. And an inspiration for the younger players. Even if it is so they can show

him how it's done.

Rooney's got something to prove.

IF he plays behind Sturridge, I'm expecting fireworks. smile.png

This Uruguay team is no great shakes whatever the FIFA rankings say. They may have managed fourth four years ago but they struggled to qualify and look to be the weakest South American team out there. Factor in key players injured and their biggest star not fit then on our showing against Italy England should win this whether Rooney shows up or not.

And if we don't then frankly we may as well come home anyway.

They'll chop and change up front, you'll see.

Somefink to whet your appetite, sir.

Foregone conclusion then.

And if we don't win, you've got your @rse covered.

Brave stuff.

Danny Welbeck moves over to the left, Rooney takes up a central role behind Sturridge. Other than that, it's the same line up as against Italy

am all for playing with a bit of pace but it's more like headless chickens right now. Need to slow it down a bit.

So far, after28 min, we watch 2 very poor teams.

How in God's name can one of the best strikers in the world be allowed to run alone like that.

Jagielka (I think it was) turns his head and looks like he thinks: Suarez? Where did he come from?

2 best chances have come from Rooney.

Rooney was near another assist as well.

Again, it is the back 4 and with the midfielders not helping them as well.

Was Sterling playing that half.

Actually, I think Sterling, Rooney, and Welbeck have been the best ones (or less poor) for England so far.

The 2 on central mid have been very poor.

On the evidence of the first half, these are two very pedestrian teams who would do nothing to grace the latter stages of the tournament.

Time for Ricky Lambert; he has a knack of scoring goals, and they don't look likely to come from anywhere else.

Thank heavens we have foreigners playing in the prem cos having to watch English players week in, week out would be dull as dishwater.
