Popular Post Credo Posted June 25, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 25, 2014 RIP. I am glad it's a brief article rather than the usual speculation by completely untrained people about what might have happened. 7

vogie Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Foul play perhaps? Or perhaps not, one thing for sure, one of us will be right.
slipperylobster Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 27 year old girls just do not usually just fall down next to a swimming pool and cease to live. I hope some follow up will be published. 1
Popular Post JeffCharlot Posted June 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2014 I remember my first time in Thailand. Excited, nervous and above all, happy. It would have been terrible for my family if I'd never returned home. I feel a little bad for the girl, but just devastated for her poor family, her parents. Regardless of what happened or how it happened, overall.... this sucks. 4
Pia Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 What a sad thing to happen. Rest In Peace young one & commiserations to the family. 1
Samui Coconut Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 27 year old girls just do not usually just fall down next to a swimming pool and cease to live. I hope some follow up will be published. Well it can happen, and I am sure it happened before, but common sense tells me that perhaps some other factors played a role..... 1
BanTamo Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Someone reads of this tragedy and promptly references himself and his state of being pleased or delighted by some trivial co-occurance?

webfact Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 US Woman Found Dead In 5-Star Hotel After Suspected Drug BingeBy Khaosod EnglishA 27-year-old American woman was found dead along with a number of narcotics in her room at a luxury resort on Koh Samui island on 26 June 2014, police say.A police search of the room turned up a small packet of cannabis, Viagra pills, a pair of handcuffs, a whip, an empty bottle of vodka, and a small packet containing what police suspect to be cocaine.SURAT THANI — A 27-year-old American woman was found dead along with a number of narcotics in her room at a luxury resort on Koh Samui island, police say.The body of Emily Potter was found after hotel staff heard her boyfriend wailing and decided to inspect their hotel room, according to police reports.Ms. Potter appeared to have passed away while she was laying on a sofa on her room’s private balcony, said Pol.Cpt. Udomsak Thappa, adding that there was no indication that her death was caused by violence."We believe she had been dead for 2-3 hours before the staff found her," Pol.Cpt. Udomsak said. Her boyfriend was identified as a British citizen named Geoffrey John Hanley (transcribed from Thai text).A police search of the room turned up a small packet of cannabis, Viagra pills, a pair of handcuffs, a whip, an empty bottle of vodka, and a small packet containing what police suspect to be cocaine.According to Olarn Chantho, a butler at the hotel, the couple checked in on 22 June and were supposed to check out on 27 June, but decided to extend their stay to 29 June "because they liked the atmosphere." On the night before Ms. Potter was found dead, she was seen having dinner with Mr. Hanley at 7 pm before retiring to their bedroom later in the evening, Mr. Olarn said.Mr. Olarn said Mr. Hanley called the front desk at 7 am the next morning and said he and his girlfriend would like to use the hotel's spa room at 10 am. However, at 9.30 am some hotel guests heard Mr. Hanley's screams, prompting hotel staff to check his room and find Ms. Potter's body, Mr. Olarn said.According to the police, Mr. Hanley said he and his girlfriend drank alcohol in their private swimming pool after dinner until they became heavily intoxicated and fell unconscious. When Mr. Hanley woke up on the next morning, he saw Ms. Potter sleeping on the sofa-bed and called Mr. Olarn to arrange the spa room for both of them, police say.Mr. Hanley only realised that Ms. Potter was dead when he tried to wake her up, said Pol.Cpt. Udomsak. He said Mr. Hanley refused to give testimony about the substances police found in their hotel room.Pol.Cpt. Udomsak said the police suspect that Ms. Potter died from an overdose of narcotics and binge-drinking. Ms. Potter's body has been sent to Koh Samui Hospital for autopsy, and the US Embassy has already been contacted about her death, Pol.Cpt. Udomsak said.Police say Mr. Hanley will be prosecuted if lab results reveal that he was using narcotics.Source: http://en.khaosod.co.th/detail.php?newsid=1403779769§ion=12&typecate=06 -- Khaosod English 2014-06-27
Samui Coconut Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Someone reads of this tragedy and promptly references himself and his state of being pleased or delighted by some trivial co-occurance? Nobody is or sounds delighted here smart Alex, it is very sad indeed, but if you read the previous post properly, it gives you some clues as to where it happened and that some substance was involved. Now get back to work....
Popular Post chooka Posted June 27, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 27, 2014 Police say Mr. Hanley will be prosecuted if lab results reveal that he was using narcotics. Yes, if his toxicology results are returned positive then he was breaking the law and possibly was the one who bought and provided the illegal drugs to the deceased. He participated in illegal actions that resulted in the death of a human being. 3

Yes, if his toxicology results are returned positive then he was breaking the law and possibly was the one who bought and provided the illegal drugs to the deceased. He participated in illegal actions that resulted in the death of a human being. I was referring to the remark that "HE" was using narcotics. If he supplied the drugs and administered them into her body then that is a different thing. They will have to prove he was the supplier and he administered the drugs. At the moment she may of acquired the drugs and put them into her own body freely. 2
hyperdimension Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 The word "narcotic" should not be used to refer to any illegal drug. It just makes whoever use that word (the authorities or the writer) clueless about drugs (which is probably true but they don't have to make it so obvious). The fact is that not all illegal drugs are narcotics. A narcotic is a sleep-inducing drug. Cocaine is not a narcotic. See the definition of narcosis: nar·co·sis[nahr-koh-sis] noun 1. a state of stupor or drowsiness. 2. a state of stupor or greatly reduced activity produced by a drug. 1
lostmebike Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Sad story. Many youngsters go the islands to get high on just about anything they can get their hands on. SEEMS like she mixed too many of the wrong things. My thoughts go out to her loved ones. 1
Tanlic Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Sad loss of life..RIP. As far as the bottle of Vodka goes I can just imagine telling someone who is out of their head on drugs not to drink alcohol.................as if they will listen to anyone If they were the type to listen they would never have taken drugs in the first place. 1
kamahele Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 While drugs were found in the room, tox results no doubt will take weeks to come back to show if that was the cause or contributing factor in the woman's death.
ClutchClark Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I can just imagine telling someone who is out of their head on drugs not to drink alcohol.................as if they will listen to anyone It's better to tell them when they are not "out of their head". But even if you have to tell them when they are, it's better than not telling them at all. If they were the type to listen they would never have taken drugs in the first place. You are sterotyping there. Not all drug users are complete rebels against authorities. Perhaps not, but if they are using drugs like coke and cannabis in Thailand then they are breaking the law and thats really all that matters.
