BANGKOK: -- The mother of slain protest-rally leader Sutin Tharatin called on the police yesterday to ask about the latest developments and urged for the investigation to be speeded up, especially since there seem to be no results after nine months.

Sutin, leader of the Students and People's Network for Thailand's Reform (STR), was killed while rallying at an advance-polling station in front of Sri Iam temple in Bang Na district in Bangkok on January 26.

His mother Saroj submitted a letter to acting Metropolitan Police chief Pol Lt-General Jakthip Chaijinda, asking for information about the progress of the investigation into her son's death.

Thotsaphon Kaewthima, a fellow STR leader, said the police did not seem to have moved forward in the probe into Sutin's death. He added that an arrest warrant had been issued against an STR member, but said it was impossible that this person killed Sutin as they were both in the same vehicle at the time of the shooting.

I wish the mother well , in her efforts to find some justice in a land, that till now only applies to the wealthy, I think the effort will be a waste of time , the mother would have more success if she approached General Phrayuth, seems like the only course of action.

I only passed a maths exam once in all my years in high school and even then accused of cheating BUT Truth plus Thailand is an equation that even Albert couldn't solve.

It may be 9 months since his killing but it is only 1 month since the police have been under new management.

In that 1 month there has been more achieved than in the previous 8 so there is hope.

The police did not investigate any of the killings until the army got involved. There was even video evidence of the guy being shot and even if your sick description of him were correct, he was shot and that would be sufficient grounds to investigate who was responsible - if there had been a proper law enforcement agency in the country then.

The warrant is for a police scapegoat who is very unlikely to have anything to do with the activist's death. I don't know where it says that the scapegoat is abroad but, if he is, the time to come back is when the army check out what the police have or haven't done.

Mr Sutin was shot dead and ten others were injured as they blockaded the advance voting at a polling booth at Wat Sri-eam in Bang Na district on Jan 26.

Gen Chayut said more than 70 witnesses were questioned and police are trying to identify the gunmen. Although photos of several suspects have gone viral on social media sites, the facts have not yet been established, he said.

Thawatchai was clearly identified as the man in the bed of a pickup truck that was trailing Mr Sutin’s vehicle while the other unidentified man was clearly seen dressed in jungle camouflage outfit and wielding a firearm in video clips.

The two men are charged with illegal possession and illegal discharge of firearms.

Thanks for that. If these police are to be believed they did do some sort of investigation but the question remains - how honest and diligent were the efforts to apprehend real suspects and not scapegoats.

So I'll rephrase my comment: The police made little effort to properly investigate all the killings of protestors and real suspects were not apprehended until the army looked over their shoulder.

BTW I wouldn't rule out an accidental shooting by friendly fire but when CAPO and it's control over the police were involved, the truth tended to go out the window.
