BANGKOK: -- The sale of alcohol will be banned on Friday and Saturday as they are two important Buddhist holidays.

The booze ban will be effective for 48 hours from 12:01am on Friday to midnight on Saturday, according to Peerapong Saichua, deputy permanent secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

I am not a Buddhist. Does this rule affect me too?

Yes it does.

Yup tag all the main holidays in your calendar because if you want a drink its a good idea to go stock up before they start or get an invite to a party that has.

Buddhist holidays are an inconvenience for tourists , but on the other hand little or no effect and guaranteed more business for the "mom and pop" shops.

Yes, It's pathetic. It's religious discrimination.

What I remember from previous such holiday threads posted over the years

1, That's the final nail in the coffin for tourism in Thailand

2, I'm a tourist it must be illegal to stop me buying a drink

3, I'll sue my travel company when i get home

4, What am i supposed to do if I cannot go to a bar to drink

5, I'm not a Buddhist (already covered)

6, It infringes on my human rights.

7, Thailand and all Thais are rubbish.

Any more, my memory is failing with age.

Of course, as said, some bars will be open as will some mom&pop shops else plan ahead.

Thanks for the reminder, just called the local shop and got them to drop round 10 slabs of their finest ale.

Can you still buy sex on Fri- Sat?

I am not a Buddhist. Does this rule affect me too?

No, just pop over to a 7/11 near you.

Nah. normal to buy 10 at a time, gets me a discount and the beer fridges are nearly empty so good timing to stock back up.

Secret loophole; buy a bottle at the bar beforehand so when you come later they can say that they didn't "sell" any alcohol. Imbibing itself isn't illegal right?

If the consumption of alcohol was banned I could understand, but to ban the purchase when most stock up beforehand seems to defeat the object.

Can somebody help me out here, and explain the logic ?

Surely not?

I thought one of the biggest attractions for tourists coming to Thailand was to traipse endlessly around temples before popping off down to the beach for a swim in the clear aquamarine sea and then enjoying a delicious freshly caught Thai seafood lunch at one of those cheap family run beachside restaurants that ever so slightly dip their supports onto the pristine sand. Then it's back to the temples for some more Buddhist culture before dinner and an early night. thumbsup.gif

Sure.

Nice heads up. I'll go get a couple of boxes.

I am not a Buddhist. Does this rule affect me too?

It shouldn't if you have any planning skills at all.

Sadly, a lot of people will be affected.

I am not sure it is correct to write 'Beware'.

Surely it should be 'be aware'?

Unless some rather feckless people are worried about not getting pissed as a fart ...

... you do realise it's just two days, don't you...?!

It may just be me, and forget me if I'm wrong, but I do rather detect a slight note of sarcasm in your comment.

... and then, after a couple of hours sleep, get up and enjoy the seedy night life...!!

I do realise you did not see my post #12.

Bloody typical! Wife's away for a couple of days, a chance for me to go out, and this happens. Any suggestions???

This is just not right how can they do that. Im off to 7/11 right now.

My boxes always come with 12 bottles, enough for 2 quiet days smile.png

What about the TVF Lounge beer girls? Coffee, tea... or me?
