Codesh
Sort of on topic, as it has been mentioned Excuse my ignorance but what difference do USD forks make, apart from aesthetics ?? USD tubes are meant to be better because they are lighter and more rigid. The main disadvantage is that the oil seal is now at the bottom, so it's far easier and quicker to lose the oil and then the damping if a seal should go. The other disadvantage is that they cost more to make than normal forks. I also like upside down forks because they usually have a light shield to protect the fork tubes from pitting caused by stones and mud thrown up by other vehicles. mania
Folks looking to possibly buy the Honda 300 should also take a look at the new Kawasaki singles IMHO Power to weight is slightly better & HP/Torque near identical Price is 118k for the naked & 121k for the ninja http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/756957-kawasaki-ninja-250sl-z-single-cylinder-now-available/#entry8332783

mania
^ They definitely got the weight down. 148kg (naked) 151kg (fared). I think the trellis frame has a lot to do with it + being a single it is more narrow than the Ninja twin So should be nice & flickable too. Deacon Bell
^ It really comes across as the best sub-300cc bike on the market, unless going for the most power (and most money) with the Ninja 300.

Heheh that is something I never thought I would see Thailand better on quality As for a large farang should not matter as the Honda 300 & this bike are 99.9% identical in dimensions same seat height etc & the Kawasaki only 1.9" shorter wheelbase which is probably for sport handling but a tiny amount either way. In fact all of these bikes, Ninja 250/300 Honda 250/300 Ninja/Z 250 SL All quite identical in size All have roughly 30.7"/780mm seat heights 54-55/1405mm wheelbases etc Edited September 3, 2014 by mania
dave_boo
The new wee Kawasaki definitely looks the part. But considering the HP claims versus the dyno results from previous bikes from them perhaps a bit of patience to see real world output (and weight) is in order before declaring a winner in the kg/hp category? Because let's be honest....going from 5.6kg/hp (claimed) to 6.0kg/hp isn't all that big of a jump. Only 8%. Throw on a 75kg rider and the spread becomes 5%. The flip side is that I would expect the Ninja to have shorter gearing Which should make it more fun in the city.

True although never easy to find Honda gearing specs as they dont list on Honda/powersports etc But here is Kawasaki SL gearing 1st 3.000 (393/11) 2nd 1.933 (29/159) 3rd 1.444 (31/22) 4th 1.217 (28/23) 5th 1.045 (23/22) 6th 0.923 (24/26) And Honda 300 1 - 3.416 2 - 2.250 3 - 1.650 4 - 1.350 5 - 1.166 6 - 1.

Assuming the numbers are correct (there are discrepancies on the Ninja's), than the Honda actually has shorter gearing. 13% in first, 16% in second, 14% in third, 11% in fourth, 11% in fifth and 12% in sixth. Going back and assuming that Kawasaki's released weight & hp are realistic...the bikes should accelerate the same. As meaty as the frame looks on the Kawi, and the shorter wheelbase, could it finally stop Honda from winning races?

You know for that class engine size there has to be a good reason Moto3 goes single cylinder I think it is critical class weight wise & also they can build a narrow focused bike around it. While I do not like the thumper singles they do in fact get those Moto3 singles to sing 50+hp @ 9-14000 rpm But of course short engine hours at those rpm's Edited September 3, 2014 by mania
