My wife and I would like to retire in Koh Samui, or Koh Tao. We are not looking for a huge place, just nice. 1 or 2 bed room, swimming pool with a view would be nice. When I was there I stayed in a hotel. I did drive around the Island one time. My budget is around $5000 US a month. I would like to keep my rent down around $1000 to $1500US a month. Is that a good budget for a nice place? If that is not possible then we will look in other parts of Thailand. I love the water, and scuba diving.

That would be easy to find, in that price range....on Samui, probably KT as well, and a whole lot less, depending on area.... just spend some time and look around... thumbsup.gif

There is no diving on Samui so if diving is big on your to do list of things look at Koh Tao. Lots of nice places within your budget and diving on your doorstep not a long speedboat ride away biggrin.png

If diving isn't a big thing then lots of really nice places on Samui for your budget as well Good luck thumbsup.gif

Jimmy is right - lots of decent places in that price range. If you are looking for a private pool - not so common.

It is doable in the area where I live, it just depends on availability and length of lease.

This is the view that I had to put up with for 14 years.

Best advice is check out the different areas, and see what suits you..... Private pool would be available at the higher end of your budget.... usually in gated communities.... sometimes a few kilometers away from beaches.... wink.png

Probably better to look when it is not high season! .... so not July - August or Jan to March!

You need to drive around the island and look. No point asking people as no one but you knows what you want. You won't get anything on the beach for that budget with a pool.

I am sure I will do a lot of looking when I get there. It has been 5 years since I was there last, and I am sure things have changed. Maybe a condo would be a better option.

Thanks for all your help. We was thinking Thailand or Costa Rica. My wife wants Thailand due to the fact it is closer to her home Country of S. Korea.

thanks for all the help

Agree with the other Samui-posters, within your budget of 30k to 45k or 60k baht you will be able to find a nice 2-bed villa, and with a pool in the upper scale of your budget. Price is (often) depending of location, like you say you wish a view from the pool – however sea view or (certainly) beachfront may not be within your budget – the southern and more isolated part of the island may have better options, but you will need some kind of transportation living there.

Best thing is to come down, rent something temporary or just stay at an affordable resort for a short period, get around the island, ask locals, and look – not all villas for rent hits the Internet.

Look on line for villas try to get the villas direct website and not an agent so you can deal with owners direct
