Hi, my friend gf, got pregnet, its just like 2-3 weeks, and they went to sattahip navy gov hospital, but so many people, and waiting times like hours, and after 3h they didnt even been seen by doc., so left not seeing doctor.

Now they thinking going private hospital and ask me for help.

They talk about Pattaya bkk hospital, and Pattaya memorial hospital.

Pattaya bkk hospital might be good, but its like 60 000 i think, not so sure but i heard once, its like they look after ur pregnacy and u give birth.

What about Pattaya memorial hospoital

or any of u guys can recommend something good and not super expensive?

and give idea how much cost and where? and what should be done in first weeks of pregnacy?

Thank you for help

Both private hospitals in Sri racha are also good (especially samitivet). Price should be around 30K for a natural delivery. BKK Pattaya is ok, but if there would be complications or you need to stay longer it will become very expensive. If you would go to Samitivet I can advise you to name of the doctor most nurses go to when they are pregnant (doctor with best reputation - Tanongvit Nutakom). Edited by kriswillems

If she is Thai, I suggest she go to the govt hospital where she is registered. All care including the delivery will be either free or nominal cost of 30 baht per visit.

She went to gov. But was not very good

Just to register there it takes forever. Then waiting.to be seen another hours and was told doctor can see in mkrning 3 days per week and they take 10 people only!....

she dont mind gov but its just difficult...

Gov i guess dont have same gear then privates. Like new usg machines computers or whatever it needs..

would Pattaya memorial be bit cheaper then bkk pattaya hospital?

Did the rounds a year ago, the empty maternity ward in bkk patt didnt fill me with confidence. Memorial ok but again not confidence inspiring. Ended up at phaya thai in sri racha and was all great. Close to 50k but well worth it, cheaper options too.
Most importantly forget the money (as much as you can) and what others say. Make sure it is somewhere that the 2 of you are both happy with.

We used Pattaya International Hospital for all the prenatal stuff...  Low cost and fast service (in/out) no waiting.

For the delivery by C-Section, We used an OB/GYN doctor on Soi Pottisarn who operates out of a private clinic.

She performed the C-Section at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, and it was an all inclusive price of 40'000 Baht.

Probably an important factor to take into account is that if you wouldn't go to the government hospital and there are complications the price could go up very quickly (up to millions).

You could choose the have the first checks in a smaller clinic outside the government hospital and the actual delivery in the hospital.

Some doctors also work in government hospitals in the evenings. When you go at that time you pay the full price but there's almost no queue.

Many of the doctors in the government hospital also have a small private clinic outside the hospital. But in these clinics you can expect to wait 1 to 2 hours too.

The issue is a few hours wait time?  Actually even in a private hospital there is likely to be waiting as appointment times are not written in stone.  Arriving early is the name of the game for popular government hospitals but the facilities at better (province level) units are likely just as good as private hospitals and the doctors the same (they often work part time at private hospitals as the experts).   As said private hospitals can and do cost - and they do not work without cash upfront.  Sorry but objections about a few hours wait for non emergency treatment free, or low priced, sounds very strange.

My GF is 7 weeks pregnant and we had the first scan/check at Pattaya Memorial last Wednesday.  My GF is Laos so I assumed she wouldn't be entitled to any subsidised/government healthcare.

We had quite a long wait after registering at Memorial, but the doctor was friendly enough, spoke reasonable English although my GF found her Thai difficult to understand (she might not have been a Thai doctor!), checked over my GF and we both looked at the ultra-sound and baby's heartbeat.

The total cost, including a supply of vitamins, was 3,500 baht.

At the moment we will probably continue using Memorial as it's conveniently located (we don't have our own transport).

WOW ... w00t.gif

Just for comparison costs ... in the Private Hospital we went to the Doctor consults, with the Ultrasounds were Bt 600.

Usually there are a couple of Pharmacies/Chemists Drug Stores located near a Hospital that will fill the prescriptions at a much cheaper price then that of the Private Hospitals Dispensary.

Our wait times were dependant on where we were in the queue ... an hour at best.

A very wealthy American friend of mine's wife insisted she give birth at the Banglumung government hostpital. Everything went well and they have two healthy children born there. Everything went just fine.

He could have afforded to use any hospital she chose in Thailand.
