Seeking help with a amazon kindle problem PLEASE

I broke my kindle keyboard 3G screen and I leave for a backpacking holiday 1 September. I am devastated, I love my kindle.

I did look into purchasing a new model but at 5500 baht locally (while listed new on amazon for 69$) for the entry level model its just far too much and seems a bit of a rip off.

If anyone has a kindle 3G keyboard model gathering dust and would like to sell it for a small fee (or be charitable) I only need a replacement screen and know how to change it out.

Otherwise if anyone knows a good place to buy a kindle thats not B2S/kindle thailand I am all ears. I am even open to buying a kobo if price is internationally competitive. Shipping myself a kindle simply is not a option as it will not arrive in time.

Thanks so much for the help fellow reading lovers!

I had that model until about a year ago until i bought my daughter a Kindle paperwhite for a birthday present, loved it so much I bought one for myself. 100% better than the old one with the idiotic keyboard. Better screen, and the ergonomics of it make it, for me at least the closet thing to a real book, better actually! My advise would be buy a one from Amazon in US and have it shipped, preferably through USPS. I donated my old one to the ex-wife, otherwise you could have had it.

Order direct from amazon...they deduct a prepaid amount for taxed and refund it if not used ....often it is not. 10 Days is twice what you need.

Any Android tablet or phone will do the job (even iPhone/iPad), you can just download the Kindle app and sync it with your account and all your books will be available to read.

I have lots of books on the Kindle but I've never owned one, I just use the software packages on my PC, Android and IOS devices - works perfectly.

I have had delayed deliveries from amazon in the past at home. Have not tried them in Thailand yet - a little worried to do so incase it does not arrive in time

Thanks Paradise lost, will I still get hit with tax on these sites?

Not on Lazada.co.th you won't as it's a Thai business. I ordered a bunch of stuff from them last night and use them regularly.

I agree that the Kindle Paperwhite has a better screen but when I'm out and about, I use the Kindle app on my IQ 9.2. I also use the NYT app on it. With the text set to large, it's easy to read. For reading in bed, I use the Samsung Note 12-inch. It's nicer then the Kindle because it will play the videos embedded in the NYT and has good speakers for its size. I haven't used my kindle for a year!

I have a 3G keyboard Kindle sitting in a drawer that is never used, since I updated thro' a couple of PaperWhites.

Unfortunately you would have to wait until I return in October.

The paperwhite screen is awesome compared to my old Kindle, perfect for outdoor reading. Here's a picture of mine outside in my backyard in bright sunshine, screen is still totally legible.

Thanks for the replies. Personally for traveling I dont think you can beat a kindle. While tablets are great you can have a kindle running for days on end. Im going to some remote places- electricity optional!

I do like the look of these 'paper white' screens, if only they made them with much larger touch enabled screens I might buy an e-ink model again.

I would definitely purchase one with an A4 sized screen which would be excellent for PDF's, whitepapers, etc.

Why do some items on Lazada show as "imported", like this Kindle reader. I presume that all the electronic stuff they sell is imported. Does an "imported" item get extra taxes added on.

My only disappointment with the "Paperwhite" opposed to my previous "Touch" is there is no sound capability; no audio books, no music.

I used to like playing some quiet classical MP-3's while I read...now have to use 2 devices to do the same.

I do have my 3 year old "Touch" which I might consider selling but I am concerned it might have a battery issue. It seems to discharge quicker than it used to.

PM if interested.

That's why they brought out the Kindle Fire.

The stuff is not from lazada...it is from one of its customer stores. It is a grey market product..and thus loses original warrantee and support in most cases, (Amazon do have a fairly clear policy on this on their kindle page and effectively treat it as if it has been bought in the US and will suport it if it is returned to the US and effectively redlivered there.

Other products are imported but they are official imports and should have manafacturer support.

Where are you located?

ThaiExcite has several basic Kindles (not the keyboard model) for under 4,000 baht: a refurb at 3390, one with ads at 3590, and one without ads at 3990.

http://www.thaiexcite.com/Kindle-eBook-Readers/?mode=search&sort=pricelh

I bought a Paperwhite from them for my wife and had it in 2 days via EMS.

Should explain what the 'with ads' version means.

I have the 'with ads' all it means is that when you're not reading and it switches to screensaver you get books for sale displayed. It in no way intrudes on the screen when you're reading

I have Kindle Keyboard WiFi only, with a sturdy cover, which I replaced with the Paperwhite a couple of months ago. PM if interested.

Reading for any more than an hour on a non-cycling reader screen is a far different experience than reading on a tablet screen such as the Fire. Tablets also weigh more and have less battery life.

I just saw a headline yesterday that a new Paperwhite with a larger 6"+ screen will soon be released. The current screen is 5 1/2" diagonal.

I doubt you will ever see a A4 size...nice thought though.

I'm trying not to sound like a paid infomercial here..but I have both the kindle and Samsung Tablet. I can use both for the Kindle app, but the weight and form factor make the kindle an outright winner.

That being said the Samsung is an awesome product, but as a replacement for a book, doesn't come close to the kindle

I have a DX which while I think they still sell them they are not making any more. I love it. Can easily read a PDF textbook in single page view but there are many time I wish it was a bit smaller and easier to handle. I think they have realized the market is in portability and those who want large screen will stick to computers. I would almost bet you will not see an A4 one.

Only time the Samsung can be better for books is if they have coloured graphs or use colour to separate say note from code.
