Officers begin to go through the paperwork found in Pian's wife's house.

PHUKET: -- More than 200 police include officers of the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) descended on Patong this morning armed with 83 arrest warrants in what promises to be a huge shake-up of Phuket’s tourism capital.

Led by Region 8 Commissioner Lt Gen Panya Mamen and officers from Bangkok, the first place the police visited was a home of former mayor Pian Keesin, where they were met by his first wife and their daughter.

They showed her the search warrant for the five-bedroom house.

His wife – who is also the mother of Prap “Mr Big” Keesin, told them, “I don’t know where he is. He has many wives. He comes to visit us but he doesn’t stay here.”

AMLO officers asked her where Pian keeps his documents and she led them to the second floor where she showed them a storage room full of documents – and a shotgun.

As the search continues in the house, other teams of officers are searching for Pian.

More to come as the story unfolds.

Search for what ?. He was tipped off long ago .....!

Correct - he would have cleaned out any incriminating evidence a long time ago.

Any rational criminal would have done so, but this guy thought he was above the law, so who knows? Perhaps letting the heat cool down from the Kata/Karon raids gave him a sense of complacency, hopefully.

That was right after the initial raid in Kata/Karon and Pian asked if he was going to b arrested, and the answer IIRC, was "yes, but not yet".

Frankly, as long as his influence is taken away, that's the important thing.

A spent force, not a puppet master.

But is the new Mayor of Patong up to the task of not only "selling positive change" to the people, but also, ensuring, such changes, if any, are enforced?

A certain Bangkok paper spells out the charges much better than the local news. Fair use from this article below:

Mr Pian and his son formed an organisation to carry out criminal activities using the hotels and resorts as a front.

The suspects were found to have run illegal transport operations, suppressed competitors and dodged tax since 2005, he said

The suspects are influential in local politics and the biggest mafia in Phuket

Several alleged offences breach Section 3(6) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, which concerns extortion, he said

The list goes on from there, but the investigators have done some pretty thorough investigating.
