Belgian Falls through roof and dies at Jomtien Guesthouse

belgium-31.jpg

A 64 year old Belgian died after he fell through the roof of his friends Guesthouse located in Na-Jomtien on Thursday morning.

PATTAYA: -- The incident occurred at the Royal Court Guesthouse in the Na-Jomtien area, which is owned by an Italian, Mr. Bell aged 62. Soon after the accident, the victim’s Thai wife, Khun Wanida aged 23, arrived and it was revealed that Mr. John Hoemlund had gone to the Guesthouse to help his friend who reported a problem with his roof.

Mr. Hoemlund previously worked as a builder in Belgium and called a Thai friend to come and check the problem on the roof. The Thai man failed to arrive and Mr. Hoemlund decided to climb onto the roof and check the problem himself.

I know not the point of the article but you got to love it, 62 yrs old, 23 yrs old wife.

What, no conspiracy theories on this one? You all really do believe it was an accident? But you had to slag the Thai who did not turn up, how bloody infantile and pathetic.

A few off topic posts removed with a reply to one and one that was insensitive speculation.

The Thai man who did not turn up is part of the article but not the main point of the tragedy and in reality not the cause. Two people could have fallen through the roof had he turned up. Another insensitive post removed. Also note that this is NOT about the now bereaved wife.

Isn't there always someone who "knows it's not the point" but then makes mention of it anyway.

Your condolences would have sounded sincere if you hadn't gratuitously mentioned her age. Instead your comment now sounds like asinine sarcasm.

How or why did the journalist change the man from Danish to Belgian as in the original article - maybe Thai geography.

At least he copied the girlfriend's age correctly

You are correct, that is nonsensical thai bashing in optima forma. Some leave no stone untouched. Pity and sad.

Sad story. Everybody has their time though.

Truth is that in Thailand you HAVE to think twice before attempting ANY maintenance. Always isolate any electrical circuit you are working on, even a light fitting for a light bulb change. It often doesn't come down to poor workmanship buy poor materials. Plastering items with ISO, UKAS and similar standards doesn't actually make them comply!

If any good is to come from this it should be increased caution from all of us left here. Assume nothing when attempting maintenance here and know when it is best to pay for help...even if it means waiting for it!
