Koh Tao murder: Police 'willing' to probe abuse of Burmese suspects

If Myanmar develops in the right way hopefully these migrant workers can return home and earn a living there without having to endure the condesending treatment, abuse and woeful living conditions they get in Thailand. I've always found Burmese workers to be friendly, courteous and often more service minded than theThais they work for. Many speak English better than their Thai "superiors" but without all their privileges. There must come a point when for many they will get a better life at home and who would blame them to leave ? With fewer Cambodians and Burmese to do Thailand's dirty work this country is heading for serious labour problems, and it's not as if they don't deserve it.

The Burmese workers are almost without exception harder workers, with more talent than their Thai counterparts. Also, more creative, and more willing to try different solutions, to address a problem. Definitely more service oriented, and it appears they have more pride in the outcome of the job, therefore in their own craftsmanship. Alot have better english skills than the Thais. Like most of the Mexican workers in the US, they bring alot to the table, and this nation would have a very hard time without them. They should be treated with great respect, paid well, and enjoy being honored guests in Thailand. They deserve that. One day the Thais will wake up and change their attitudes, and learn how to respect good, hard working people who travel far away from their families, to put in an honest days work here. They are unfortunate to have such a heinous government back home. They do not need additional grief when they come here.

BREAKING NEWS

Koh Tao police offers one million baht cash if evidence proves they are implicated in abuse of Burmese suspects

So the KT police feel as confident as the Poo yai challenging anyone to find they are implicated in anything ?

Exceedingly arrogant and seems to be a new trend here...

It also means there is more money in rewards to find a wrongdoing in either the police or an influential family than there is to find or catch the murderers.... how sick is that ? bah.gif

Pathetic.

Good comments Spidermike although I don't think Thais appreciate or respect anyone else (certainly foreigners) very much. It's not in their nature to think like that. As you say, lets hope the Burmese get a better deal with everything, they certainly deserve it.

Oh really. I'm sure Burma has it's fair share of crooks, thieves, gangsters and petty criminals too. Like he Burmese lady who stole family heirlooms from us.

The treatment dished out by Thais to any foreigner is often reprehensible, But suggesting all Burmese are talented, hard working honest clever people is a tad to much by any stretch of the imagination.

Reading many posts on Thai Visa, you'd think murder and violent crime only happens in Thailand!

To all those people that seem to think crime is only a thai thing and incompetence by the police unknown elsewhere please read this link. You may need a VPN as its from the Daily mail.

A 14 year old young girl is missing and even when the police know exactly who the prime suspect is, A known murderer from latvis that has already killed and done time for it ye was allowed to just walk into the UK, can't find the person and the head of Scotland yard has admitted he hasn't got a clue where he is and if he has left the UK he is virtually a free man. For some unknown reason he has also failed to issue an EU arrest warrant

Murder, and solving it isn't like you see on TV in all the crime FICTIONAL programs.

I am led to believe that a meeting was or is to be held by the Koh Tao business owners who employ Burmese to assure them they are not going to be persecuted.

I'm still hoping for a positive outcome in this matter

There's absolutely no way this case is going to get solved now, I have given up on these jokers in charge of the investigation. I feel sorry for the families and loved ones of the victims, because basically the ENTIRE Thai police set-up has done everything in it's power to make sure that the truth and the killers are never revealed.

And the owner of AC Bar should be chained up and beaten mercifully until he is prepared to confess everything he knows, because I believe he knows a great deal about what happened that night.

I am sure that the owner of AC Bar appreciates your suggestion that he be beaten "mercifully"! (How do you do that? - beat them with a feather duster, perhaps?)

Your wish may come true sooner than you think. It will not be many years before the Mergui Archipelago in the Andaman Sea will be open for tourism with pristine swimming and diving (one can only hope) and hopefully these 'second class" Burmese may find good quality jobs free from the casual abuse by the Thais. I wish them well.

I also wish the Burmese well. But realistically, they will be working for drug lords when these Burmese resorts are operational. I doubt their treatment will be much better.

This case is soo much annyoing as the police was just into search of foreigners, either caucasians visiting the island or migrant workers: I know in cimes there are never thais involved so why investigating on thais?!??!?!?!?!?

Thats what you learn from this case even living here or visiting Thailand: you CAN NOT TRUST POLICE at all in THAILAND

SURAT THANI A senior Thai police officer has promised to investigate the claim that police abused Burmese migrant workers while interrogating them about the murder of two British tourists in southern Thailand last week.

"If there is an allegation of police officers committing wrongful acts, we are willing to investigate the matter," said Pol.Maj.Gen. Suwat Chaengyodsuk, a deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Bureau leading the investigation into the murders.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"promised to investigate....."

"willing to investigate......"

Possibly, maybe, might happen, not sure, shoulda, woulda, coulda, and on and on and on. As no one in the BIB circus will ever take ownership, or accountability, or responsibility for................

The RTP have had too many years of unaccountability which has allowed them to run their mafia with impunity while plundering the state coffers and may wallets.

And at worst if guilty will only be banished to an empty desk in the land inactive (temporary) posts. what a farce, as usual.

Imaginary conversation:

Cop A: why were you abusive to the Burmese suspects?

Cop B: because they were Burmese.

Cop A: alright then, you can go.

If the general wants reforms and the Thais to be happy, he have to clean up the police force to start with. RTP must be one of the most corrupt and evil police forces in the world. A disgusting mafia paid by taxpayers money.

http://news.sky.com/story/1550571/thai-murders-dna-does-not-match-defendants

"A forensics expert says DNA found on the garden hoe allegedly used to kill two British backpackers in Thailand does not match the suspects."

"The head of Thailand's central forensics institute told the trial that two profiles were found on the hoe - one a full sample, the other a partial sample - but neither matched the defendants."

"The DNA analysis was ordered by the defence after police failed to do their own tests. Police had said they examined the hoe with a microscope and were confident there were no samples on it.

Police also treated the murder scene haphazardly, Dr Porntip Rojanasunand told the trial on the island of Koh Samui."

["You've have this pretty extraordinary situation going on in court today where the head of Thailand's forensics institute is effectively contradicting the case of the Royal Thai Police, " said Sky News Asia Correspondent Katie Stallard.]

The above article is from Sky News, about the trial taking place about the Koh Tao murdes.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of coverage of this trial on TVF or the Thai Media lately. However today's Telegraph has an article about the affair. Dr Porntip giving evidence for the defence stated that the DNA found on the hoe did not match that of either of the two Burmese accuseds.

She was also scathing of the Police treatment of the crime scene and the handling of the deceaseds remains and taking of DNA samples.

I wonder if the powers that be are now regretting re-appointing her as head of the Forensic Department? See...

"If there is an allegation of police officers committing wrongful acts, we are willing to investigate the matter,"

A day late and a dollar short - on the back foot as usual. The calls for an investigation were already loud a long time ago. The claims of torture should have been properly investigated when they were made, not when it comes to trial, and Porntip says the crime scene DNA is not the Burmese lad's.

"we are willing to investigate the matter"

It shouldn't matter a damn if they're willing or not for God's sake.

Another 5-star c*ck-up laid at Thailand's door. It just goes on and on.

...willing to...

And all that, only almost one year after these questions first pooped up!

Spare me the BS!

This thread was started almost a year ago.

I'm wondering why it pooped up, but yes the trial news & update should be here.

I think most people know who committed this crime. And sure, they were NOT Burmese.

Well, judging from comments made, some obliquely, many people who live or lived on Koh Tao think they know who did it. And none of them seem to think they are Burmese.

The actions of the police alone strongly suggest the fix was in early.
