Man offers Russian ride to Phuket hotel, then rapes her

PHUKET: A Russian tourist was raped twice in Karon early yesterday (September 27) after she accepted a lift from a Thai man on his motorbike.

The 33-year-old woman, reporting the assault at about midday yesterday, admitted that she was drunk from being at a party until about 2am yesterday with boyfriend and other friends.

Lt Col Sophon Borrirak of Karon Police explained, “She decided to walk alone back to her hotel [the Duangjit Resort]. On the way she encountered a Thai man on a motorbike who stopped to talk with her.

“The man offered to take her to the hotel. But instead, he took her to his rented room in a soi opposite Krungthai optic in Karon,” he added.

“There, he tied her hands with and raped her. She was afraid that he might become violent, so she did not resist,” Col Sophon said. He raped her twice before taking her back to her hotel.

After she reported the rape to the police, they checked CCTV footage in Karon area and were able to indentify the rapist as Somdech Srisai, 33, from Nakhon Pathom.

“Police found CCTV footage of him bringing the woman from Karon circle to his rented room,” Col Sophon said. “ So we waited for him at the building and arrested him when he showed up at about 5:30pm.”

Police searched the room and seized four pieces of cloth ripped from a bed cover, a red polo shirt with white stripes, a pair of jeans, green underwear and the motorbike used to bring the victim to the rented room.

Somdech told the police, “At first I was just going to take her to the hotel. But I saw she was very drunk, so I decided to take her to my room first so she could rest.

“Once we were in the room, she was very pretty and I could not control my emotions,” he added.

“I tore strips from the bed cover and tied hers hand I raped her,” he explained, adding that he climaxed twice without using a condom.

“Then I took her back to the hotel,” he said.

Police charged him with rape and he accepted the charge, Col Sophon said.

He seems so very matter-of-fact about the whole incident.

It does show that working CCTV can be a very effective tool for the police and despite it seeming a relatively straightforward arrest, praise is due to the police on this occasion.

Koh Tao please take note.

Let's see, he's Thai and she "falang" And he admitted it. So, a 1,000 baht fine and 1 year in prison, probably suspended it he has no priors.

I can't believe that you are unaware of how prevalent violent rape is in Thailand.

Yes in a perfect world women should be able to do what they want without having to worry about predators like this, but this is not a perfect world so when will people accept that women CONNOT walk home alone and drunk???

Why did her boyfriend and friends allow her to walk home alone???

No one asks for this to happen to them but some simple precautions should be taken, take five minutes away from the bar to escort them home, is it too much to ask???

Until people start to think, and start to act responsibly low life like this will continue to surface and wreak havoc on innocent lives...

When people get drunk, their critical thinking abilities wane. She was drunk. He probably had that famous Thai smile which appears so warm and friendly. People might also begin to consider that alcohol consumption is not a cool way to have fun. It should be understand that so much violence, rape, assault and crime happens due to alcohol inebriation. It's time for the world to find a more safe and healthy recreational way to release stress and have fun in social settings.

Just yesterday I posted under another posting on Koh Tao to lets see what will get reported in Phuket, Samui etc and 12 hours later we have another foreign woman to get raped and an Aussie got stepped by three Thai teenagers.

This happends every day day in every country, so what is the big news. Except time for thai bashing.

Part of the responsibility for this being able to happen lies with the people behind the still non-functioning transportation system on Phuket.

If they had a proper (not rip-off) transport system all over the island, there would be no reason for a single Russian (or any other nationality including Thai)woman, to have to accept a ride from potential rapists.

This has happened far too many times.

If we want to send out a strong signal to the guys who commit this sort of crime then removing his crown jewels is bar far the most fitting solution. If you steal loose a hand. If u rape loose ya bits and bobs. This way he can't do it again

i had a thai guy tell me this is his country and he can do what ever he wants, so they get caught, admit they did wrong and get off lightly for being good little honest dudes.
