19-year-old student bids car license number for Bt25 million

BANGKOK: -- A 19-year-old student of Assumption University has won the bidding of the car license plate number of 1 Kor Kor 1111 1

The winner, Thanapat Tantisewekul said he was willing to pay up to Bt50 million if needed to.

Land Transport Department Director General Atsathai Ratanadilok said the price was the highest for a car license number since the department held the bidding for license numbers since 2003.

Thanapat, who is studying the Faculty of Law, used the Bt25 million license plate on his Nissan Almera E-CVT, which is about Bt500,000 worth.

And so many young Thai people can't even afford to go to university. Sick...

This will make him a target for some, hope he has good security.

Stop blaming the kid.

Blame the stupid father that gave him the money and allowed him to bid.

In this crazy land, it will probably be a good investment and could be sold on in a few years for an even more ridiculous sum, potentially to someone else who quickly needs to find a place to 'invest' a large amount of cash.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. An awful lot of things can go wrong between now and " in a few years " the way the global bubble economy is right now

He is clearly a very caring young man, as the Ferrari is not environmentally friendly like his Nissan eco car.

It's so easy to spend money that you didn't have to earn........

Assumption is where you go if you can't get into MU or Chula but still have lots of money.

I am sure a background check on the parent's business would help shed light on this incredible story.

Someone should have told him, 25 or 50 million, his penis will still be the same size!!

Jesus christ his life must be such an empty shell of nothing

Someone should have told him, 25 or 50 million, his penis will still be the same size!!

Oh come on, he is a well-hung Thai young man with his 3 inches!!

And after all the attention here, even more Thai hotties will tell him: "Oh darling, you are so big"giggle.gif

Another fine example of the 'leaders' of the future. crazy.gif

Rich people's kids are a pox on humanity, for the most part. Not limited to Thailand either.

Strange that in a country where face is so important people are keen to show their lack of class and poor upbringing in such a public display of poor taste.

A good reason for high inheritance taxes...

A fool and his dad's money...

I'm sure neither of them could care less though. There must be plenty more where

that came from.

It would be worth for AMLO to actually find out "where" that came from.

If he has the money and it makes him happy then more power to him. Not sure how plates transfer here in Thailand work but assume he can resell (either with or without car) which would make this an investment too. Not only in Asia but also in places like the UK and US people pay big money for plates. I think I read recently a plate was sold for $14 Million in Abu Dhabi.

Not to mention people like this help offset fees for others. Would have to try hard to see no down side to this story ... just another offbeat news item.

Sounds like you're jealous because a 19-year-old is more successful than you are. It's funny that so many farangs get so jealous when they hear of a Thai person with more money than them. Perhaps it hurts that they're not top of he pile like they thought they were.

If you're so concerned about Thais that can't go to university, why don't you do something to help. Maybe sponsor a student or set up a charity to help. No chance of that though, as your type just prefer to whinge all the time.

Another example of petty jealousy from a farang. So some Thais have more money than you. Get over it.

So what's the difference between this and people in the West paying $10m+ for old paintings and other trash? Some farangs on here love to knock Thais but worse things happen in their home countries. So this guy wasted 25m baht. In USA they wasted $4 trillion in last decade or two bombing other countries. I wonder who caused less damage to the world. In case you're American and don't know the answer, it's the Thai guy.

Sounds like you equate money with success - how, by the way can a 19 yo be a 'success' anyway?

Most fortunes are illicitly gained here, by people abusing positions of privilege and cronyism. Hardly anything worth being proud of.

The really wealthy take care not to attract attention with public displays of vulgarity. The rest are just wannabee pretenders.

As I said before this is hardly a 'Thai' problem - it is world wide.

  • Popular Post

Where is the problem? As far as I understand the money is used for charity reasons. He got his 1111 and a charity got 25mio THB.

And petty jealousy is not a good thing either. As I already said, do something to help fix problems you see instead of whinging about them.

Lots of people here and elsewhere with money to throw at things most people could care less about. Doesn't have to be a license plate either but also things like throwing thousands of baht away in a day at bars and bar girls ... most people in the world and in Thailand think this silly too. And unless you get HIV or Herpes you got nothing lasting to show, at least this guy got a plate he can resell down the road.

That's called redistribution of wealth!!

Anyone know who this young gentleman's family are? a Pol Col, Ltd Gen etc maybe?..........

Some falang throw their money away on bargirls, and even marry them, at least this kid has more sense than that, and he can always sell it on.

So he should pay the university fees for everyone else less fortunate than he is?
