Police says its tourist murder case file solid for prosecution

10-6-2014-10-14-32-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The police are confident that the case file of the two murdered Britons was solid to prosecute the two Myanmar murderers in the court.

Assurance by the police came as they said they will hand over the document to prosecutors’ office tomorrow to proceed the case in court.

Meanwhile a human rights network for migrant workers arrived on Koh Tao Island today keep track of the case.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Decha Butr-namthip, the 8th Region Police commissioner, along with a team of police investigators handed in a more than 800 page case file of the murder of two British tourists on Koh Tao Island to the Koh Samui provincial prosecutors’ office for consideration today.

Included in the case file were confessions from the two main Myanmar suspects ‘Win’ and ‘Saw’.

He stated that the case file was brought in for preliminary inspection by prosecutors before it will be formally handed to the court for indictment at 10 am tomorrow morning.

He also revealed that he had held talks with a human rights group that had arrived on the island to follow-up on the case and everyone was satisfied that the case has been handled fairly.

Meanwhile the director-general of the 8th Region Prosecutors’ Office, Mr Thawatchai Siengjaew, revealed that a team of five prosecutors has been tasked with the verification of the case file.

This is because of the case’s high profile and sensitivity which will greatly affect the country’s image.

He said that inspection of the case file was an important final step in the process to check for any loopholes. Should any doubts arise on any point of the case file then further interrogation of the suspects will be needed.

In closing he said that should any organization, be they human rights or otherwise wish to be privy to any facts pertaining to the case, he would be willing to answer all questions.

But this can only happen after the case file has been thoroughly verified.

Meanwhile in a parallel development a subcommittee in charge of human rights and the network looking after the rights of migrant workers accompanied by attorneys and interpreters were coordinating with the Koh Samui Provincial Court for permission to visit and question the two Myanmar nationals under arrest. This was to determine if they were being treated fairly and given basic rights such as the right to counsel.

Myanmar embassy Charge d’ Affaires Mr. Htun Aye meanwhile led a delegation of seven officials, part of which were a team of attorneys and one NGO attorney to personally question the two suspects.

Following the interview, the NGO attorney revealed that the two suspects had admitted to having committed the crime. The team of attorneys brought in by the consulate was not yet certain of their guilt however, commenting that the suspects may have been coerced by Thai authorities. It is for this reason that the consular team will be making inquiries of their own while on the island.

Well okay then. Should be no problem passing the evidence to the UK coroner for pier review.

I dont Think the UK police or government has requested the files and I doubt they will. The ambassador here in thailand is confident the police is doing there work properly :)

There should be an inquest in the UK.

Well there you go the police are moving ahead with the blessing of a human rights group.

Now the question for the naysayers on here should be asking is what is the name of this human rights group and what is there actual statement on the police press statement?

Anyway the police are now inviting questions from human rights groups or will be so I don't think they are going to allow any other country to have any involvement in this case.

What about the pathologist's definitive confirmation of the third as yet unidenitified suspect's DNA on Hannah's body, revealed on today's interview of a policeman and a police pathologist by Sorayud on Channel 3 ????????????

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ_1WfVs7RY

"The pathologist said that DNA of B and a third person C was found on Hannah's nipples. The third person was not David. The policeman didn't explain who the police thought C was or how he came to deposit his DNA on Hannah's nipples."

how can they possibly make a case when they know atleast one more person was involved ?

Exactly Stealth.

The two should not be made to take all the fall for the absent third. That is not justice.

Has the human rights group made a public statement or is this another claim made on behalf of others such as the the UN loves us, the Tour de France is coming etc ?

My point south peel is find out the name of the human rights group and get their view on this as the phone theory has gone down the toilet.

Surely you guys are entitled to hear what they have to say as the police seem very confident and full steam ahead.

It's Mr Peel to you .

Given The BIBs other statement, I suppose we aren't really allowed to question anything, without the possibility of charges being bought for insulting an official.

Wrong as usual. You may not post false information.

Ask any intelligent question you can come up with.

I realize it will be a hard job but go ahead ask away.wai.gif

But will they tell who it is if their families have been threatened by this third party and/or his associates? I guess we will wait and see...

Please read the article. They have already allowed Miramar to look into it.

As for Briton.

Would they ask Thailand to look into two Thais murdered on their soil when they had two confessed killers along with DNA evidence?

UK would share the case file as a common courtesy.

commenting that the suspects may have been coerced by Thai authorities.

The men have signed confessions... END OF STORY.. Guilty as charged..... The RTP have their men.....

AS for the 3rd DNA found... Forget it.... The RTP have their men....

The RTP did an outstanding job. smile.png They have their men...

Does any of this mean anything.... IT doesn't really matter.... The RTP have their men....

END OF STORY

Slowly but surely we are moving towards the general acceptance of the guilt of the two Burmese as a certainty.

So over 90% of our expatriate community will have to decide a public apology or be silent forever.

I await the moment with relish.

But finally, I'll bet they will not do neither the one nor the other...

A copy of the case file should be given to the UK authorities as a courtesy and so the coroner in the UK can verify the evidence and stop all this silly conjecture about Thai police corruption.

Further, the UK police should be permitted to retrive DNA samples from the accused to confirm Thai police evidence.

Surely this is exactly what the RTP needs right now?

A couple of points to explore :

1 ) there is no such thing as a UK coroner since Scotland, still part of the UK, doesn't have such an office so there's no universal application to the term,

2 ) what does it matter if an English coroner makes a determination as his / her findings carry no weight here ? ,

3 ) no English police force/ Home office scientists etc can operate outside their jurisdiction without being invited and that's no going to happen AND

if all the reports are true the British Ambassador is more than happy with the BIB unless he's saying one thing in public and doing another behind the scene which is hard to believe.

Erm.Nope.They do not have ALL their men because the third man whose DNA was on Hannah's body is missing.

I don't really like the idea of a third rapist/murderer getting away with it. Do you?

And btw, I said "But will they tell who it is if their families have been threatened by this third party and/or his associates? "

Never said Thai authorities coerced the suspects....

Okay, English coroner.

To dispel the accusations of corruption the best move the RTP could make right now is complete disclosure to and involvement of the UK.
