October 23, 201411 yr I'll be doing a visa run next week, looking to fly to Nakhon Phanom and then go to Mukhdahan/Savannakhet. What's the best way to get to Mukhdahan from the airport, and how much will it cost? Is there a van that goes? And how long does it take? Thanks for your help
October 23, 201411 yr I thought you could cross the border at Nakhon Phanom? It was a few years ago but there was a border crossing there at that time. Mukhdahan is a much more interesting place though.
October 23, 201411 yr Author I have to go to Savannakhet for the consulate though so it's probably easier to go to Mukhdahan
October 24, 201411 yr I don't understand.. U say u want to make a " visa Run " ; why do u want to go to the consulate at Savanakhet ? A visa run , u don't need to go to a consulate for that . U have to enter another country, Laos for example and coming back immediatly to Thailand ...for 15 days .. ; but if u want 60 days it's a regular visa not a visa Run . and u have a very beautiful new bride in Nakon_Phanom to cross the Mae_Nam_Khong .

What you describe is a border run. Reentry without visa (visa exempt). The poster wants to do a visa run, He wants to apply for a visa at the Savannakhet consulate as others do regularly. NokAir offers a fly and ride service from Don Mueang to Mukdahan (flight plus bus transfer): http://www.nokair.com/contents/promotion/mukdahan/en-US/index.html @Quack: you migth probably find more info in the Visa forum. It sounds like a local item, but these visa runs are described there frequenty.

October 24, 201411 yr Book 24 hours in advance NOk Air and you can book directly to Mukdahan. (Flight plus van) to the border.
October 24, 201411 yr I spend most winters in Nakhon Phanom and there is a regular hourly minibus service from NP bus station to Mukdahan, but it does stop en route for the locals to get on and off.
October 26, 201411 yr Author Thanks for your replies, the fly/ride service looks the best bet, I will check out Nok and AirAsia
June 17, 201510 yr Hello, If I want to fly to Nakhon Panom instead of Ubon because it's closer (100 kms less on road), how to go to Mukdahan ? Taxi ? Or I could also cross the border there and get a visa on arrival on laos side ? Then go to Savanakhet from the lao city in front of Nkhon Phanom ? How much would it cost by taxi ? Thank you.
June 18, 201510 yr Should you decide to fly to Nakhon Phanom, it's only around 115 km away and wroth to travel next to the Mekhong river. Once in Mukdahan you'll find the shuttle bus that also takes you into Laos. Don't forget to try the dark Lao Beer in Sawannakhet.

There are mini buses every half hour from NKP to Muk terminal. Much easier to do that than going from Thakhek, the town in front of NKP, to Savan.
December 4, 201510 yr ok...I screwed up....made my booking before reading this thread and no, they do not allow to add the ground transport from NP to Mukdahan to the booking. No, cannot cancel ticket and yes, you can pay again. For NP to Mukdahan I am not that much worried, but heading back I am under time pressure to catch my flight back to BKK. Can I get a taxi from Savannakhet consulate to the border, and another one from the border to the airport in NP? How much would that cost? Recommendations? Bookings? Phone numbers? Thanks!
September 8, 20169 yr Only smart choice is to fly to Nakhonphanom, ubon is too far, and you will find a 400thb van front of airport to go to Muk. On the way back take international bus from savanaket (50 thb) or tuktuk at border to go to bus station..Then bus or van every jour to Nakhon bus station, 100thb.
