BANGKOK: -- Thai Airways' Flight TG47, scheduled to fly from Khon Kaen to Bangkok, skidded off the runway before it took off shortly after 8 pm Monday. No injuries were reported.

The accident prompted Nok Air's flight from Bangkok to Khon Kaen to be unable to land and it had to land at the Udon Thani airport instead.

Nok Air's passengers, who were scheduled to leave Khon Kane for Bangkok at 8:50 pm, were transferred to Udon Thani to catch their flight there.

Thai Airways offered its passengers, who did not want to return to Bangkok right away, to stay at the Pullman Khon Kaen Hotel pending the clearing of the runway and fixing of the plane.

They better hurry and paint over the Thai logo before dawn.

Lets wait for a proper investigation before jumping to any conclusions. Runway excursions (either to the side or past the end) are not all that uncommon.

Yep..... wait till we paint over the logo, then blame the incident on Chinese lanterns.

So...stay at the Pullman until the runway is cleared and the plane is fixed? Take the same plane back to Bangkok?

Ummm.....is this a trick question?

The pilot must be Burmese.

thats correct they actually are quite common 4 last year ?? still it helps keep the weeds down

Been common round here.

Hope he didn't skidded to far off, we have a piece of land near by....

Could have been hydroplaning of the wheels just before takeoff. Those accident stats are really impressive. Somebody has put in a lot of work there. Just wondering if the DCA publishes reports on these accidents?

I normally see this type of issue upon landing in wet weather, but prior to take off? Oops! The Captain has some explaining to do.

The runway must have been built by Burmese. Also, a Burmese ghost suddenly showed up and intimidated the pilot. coffee1.gif

  • Aquaplaning or hydroplaning which is also known as a loss of steering or braking control when a layer of water prevents direct contact between tires and the road, runway, or other surface.

sorry mate no rain or standing at K K airport yesterday

By the registration shown (HS-TEG) it's the same type of aircraft that went off at Suvarnabhumi with the infamous logo-painting debacle (Airbus A330). In fact, this one is the registration immediately following, as the previous one was HS-TEF. Probably coincidence though as these things are not uncommon.

This one just does not add up, according to what is written in the OP - quite normal with Thai reporting unfortunately. According to the OP, the flight was outbound when the excursion occurred, which is relatively rare - most excursions occur during/shortly after landing. Why did the incident cause closure of the ,main runway for Nok Air ? - unknown.

So some passengers will stay at a hotel until the aircraft is extracted and repaired? Repairs, inspection and recertification would normally take at least several days, and I am quite sure that Khon Kaen does not have either the facilities or personnel to do the job.

I think it would be better if they had simply ignored the story.

The question is where they will build the ghost-house to make sure this will never happen again ....

Hard to work this out, skidded off while taking off, flown out KK many times, long runway, wide and I believe no rain or winds. Must have been mechanical problem.

No cause shown for this to happen?

It'll be those darned spirits again old boy. wai.gif

So it took off after it skidded off the runway?

Why you complain about a free plough ??thumbsup.gif

Called pilots late night fun fling. He was taking a dump of soil to swampy to land fill there.

The price of Thai Airways includes hotel stays, in case of emergences.

It's kind of like the flu.. First Nok Air caught this illness, and then it spread to Thai Air... then back to Nok Air, and now back to Thai Air.... It's contagious!!!

BTW, it appears the Thai Dept of Civil Aviation has just recently published an updated tally sheet of aircraft accident incidents from 2007 to 2013...

Obviously bird-flu!biggrin.png

They can always blame the rain in that they slipped by the end of runway markers because the rain made it hard to see! Heheee

I've flown in & out of Khon Kaen several times. The aircraft must do a complete turn at the end of the runway before & after takeoff. My guess is the pilots made the turn too wide an drove in to the grass.
