Well, we haven't been to that Street of Easy Virtue except to go to the good Doctor's clinic to get our prostheses' batteries replaced, and oil changed, in a while, but we hear that GrandPa's Last Boner is doing a stand-up business as usual, with the on-site defibrillator really getting a work-out from the happy punters.

But, how about that ever-popular dys-bistro Whale Belly's Last Stand ? Haven't heard anything about them since they discontinued the body-body bungee-jump show at midnight after ... who was it ... Heinz ? ... failed to bounce-back, and the BIB swarmed on their revenue like locusts.

I was going to give this thread a miss, but it seems my fans are demanding I make an appearance.

It`s simply this, nothing has changed in the Loi Kroh road, Chiang Mai`s fading orange light district for around 10 years, maybe more.

It`s a handful of dirty grotty little open bars staffed by women that I think are the last remaining comfort women forced to work there during the Japanese occupation and stayed on.

Really, I am not making this up.

FYI Check out the areas adjacent to Loi Kroh too. As the bar scene has slowed down on Loi Kroh and has moved to close surrounding areas.

I am all around town, up and down all the alleys and side streets.. And am unaware of any other 'bar scene' with beer bars and girls worth mentioning.. EDIT except for that small zone in santitam..

And please.. The night bazaar section ??? That seems to me to be only mentioned by people who own a bar in there and dont like sitting alone at night.

Dont agree.. Have been to most of those spots multiple times this year and would say..

Samui.. Chaweng is going (as per many destinations) more family biased and Samui has always had a younger set due to the islands and FMP.. So the best lookers often work FL around green mango / solo / late.. And are not going for the older, greying pot bellied type as much.. The soi reggae pup zone was rammed with staff, many of whom were at least worthy of buying a drink and Lamai is also rammed with friendly staff.. Good times there just a few weeks ago.

Phuket.. Growing and growing and truly international with plenty of models and real tip top girls working promo etc and in the clubs and high end placed.. These girls are looking at 5 digit money a night and the lower end beer bars like new tiger have more stunning looking girls than you can count.. Get your wallet ready for 300b and up lady drinks and 150 - 200b beers tho.. Girls will be asking 3 - 5 but settle for a lot less if your fit and young or just good fun to be with..

Bangkok is huge and diverse.. from the farang centric spots (nana, cowboy and patpong) to the suk 11 trandies, to tonglor, RCA and the like.. Check a party night at 'the pimp' and say theres only rough old badgers working !! Again close to 5 digit money tho for those types. Again over 50, or just look it, dont dress up for a night out ?? You will stand out.

Thailand has got richer.. Its a middle income country and the cities and tourist spots are now not cheap places to live, and the aspirations of the locals are much more into BMW and versace then making payments on a honda step through. Yet visitors still seem to want to pay the same 1000b long times that they paid 10 or even in some cases 150 years back.. Face it, your being priced out of the top tier, and the smart top tier girls, the ones with brains and intelligence enough to network and use a smartphone, know this.. And know where to go to get the real money.. Hell one girl I am still friends with, who did a couple of years on Patong back 8 or so years ago.. She was so sharp she got herself to the uk, did enough time to get her passport and is now on the international escort market, multi 1000 usd a night and her facebook is Caribbean, Australia, europe, etc etc..

Wanna pay peanuts, you know what you get.. Its not about location.. hell I could send you some line accounts, where they daily advertise the 'bangkok car show pretties' and top tier coyotes, right here in town.. Or go drop 10k in the karaokes on Chiang Klan and say they are all rough.. its about farangs going from being in the higher bracket spending power in the 90s and 2000 era, to now being mediocre at best..

And then another easy indicator is the number of bars; anyone know how many bars there were on Loi Kroh when I came to town? Two. One of them usually avoided by me because of the mercenary attitude of the staff, relentlessly asking for drinks. Oh wait, is that new? No it isn't!

And yes there was the Thapae bar beer center, which most definitely fit the description of grotty (now alluded to all LK bars by some), and Cosy Corner, and Spotlight. And that was pretty much it. Maybe one or two more on Moon Muang and across on Kotchasarn. Zoe area wasn't there at all (and later just some doped out backpackers, nothing like the current scene), nor Spicy (Nice Illusion). There was Bubble Disco after hours. Which was fun, mostly by virtue of being the single place in town with somewhat of a dance floor.

But we was 'appy!! Ah the good old days.

Good post. Very accurate. I should have qualified my comment to say the beer bar and massage scene is declining. You are right. The top tier have a lot of high paying alternatives these days.

Then complain that some 20 year old slim little cuddlebunny asks for a drink too quickly for the honor of your company ?? Really ??

I go around Thailand every couple of months to kick up some dust.. And I honestly cant believe how many great fun girls there are, ready to laugh and joke, ready to have a party, everywhere !! From tin shack karokes in issan, or country discos in smalls towns, to the wannabe model type jet set in Phuket beach clubs or bangkok rooftop bars, the hardcore in Patts soi 6, etc etc etc.. I wont link anything.. So expect this will fly just this side of the rules ??? But search chiang mai and model club and spa or mossa hue or harem spa or or or.. Theres maybe 20 of these houses dotted round the city, almost all of them using social media, line and facebook for daily promotion and galleries of staff etc..

These are not xxx baht rub and tugs tho.. Not for the model classes anyway. If you just mean the foot traffic reliant ones around mae ping hotel. well it is what it is.. The kind of ones who cant get the high paying gigs.

Obviously we were all younger at one time and getting older by the day, so what? Being older does not mean we are all becoming senile and losing our memories.

Having over 31 years of living in Thailand and mostly in Chiang Mai I can tell you that there has been a major decline in the quality and availability of the commercial adult entertainment venues in Chiang Mai over the years. There is no question about it, much of what used to be has gone and what is left is very much nondescript or simply grot, plus due to the lack of supply and demand even the grot has become expensive.

My point being, the Chiang Mai night scene is pretty grim. Chiang Mai is a great city for those who enjoy shopping trips, quite and isolation and going to bed at a reasonable hour, but for letting our hair down and being naughty once in a while, Chiang Mai is certainly no sin city.

It is somewhat like an English pub, in some areas the pubs are likely to be frequented by rough crowds and in other areas the pubs can be more upmarket and attract a better class of clientele.

The bars are not all about prostitution, but of course is a part of the bar scene in Thailand, there is no disputing that. But obviously there is a choice of using the bars as social meeting and drinking establishments without bar fining any women. My point being and now going back to the original OP, is that grot attracts grot as is the Loi Kroh Road and again I mention, that the adults entertainments scene and nightlife in Chiang Mai is very grim.

Stalk? Yeah they tend to stalk me and if one pays any attention they are interested in other men also.

Maybe you don't look attractive to them but when I go to a mall they are trying to catch my eye. If a girl catches your eye after the first contact then it means they are interested in you.

I guess some people don't understand that concept.

I just give them my email or phone and that's that.

Women like attention and if you slip them your email or # then even if they don't call you they feel good about themselves. They feel desireable and that is a big part of why women go to malls etc. They like attention.

The quality girls are not working hanging out in the streets and visible anymore.. Which I could point out is a more asian style way of doing it, behind closed doors, in villas and homes around the cities etc.. Before to find 'wealthy' farang customers thats where they had to be, now they dont and asians are arriving with more spending power. Plus it allows part timers and students etc to maintain some face and semi secrecy..

I also agree CNX's beer bar scene is probably its weakest aspect.. Personally I like going out and having a laugh, a joke, some fun.. Its not about going out and trying to simply get one off.. The beer bars here are poor and I think that also becomes self fulfilling as the younger party set then go elsewhere (be it monkey or warm up or whatever) and then theres an even older set in the beer bars and even worse girls working there.

Theres no shortage of absolutely stunning looking women working here.. But they are not in beer bars, and not at cheap prices..

This has nothing to do with meeting escorts online and taking on rent a girlfriends in exchange for supplementing their income. This is about the social aspects of having a night out, wine, women and song, having some drinks and a few laughs with friends in a social environment, something like visiting a pub in England but maybe with a bit of female company, not solely about prostitution

Actually agree with this. I'm interested in bars first and foremost, not in commercial sex. I also don't completely rule it out, but it's not a main goal; main goal is to have fun.

I get a lot of girls on FB nagging me now to meet up.. Nothing wrong with them, but to be honest I don't feel like it. Not that desperate.

Having over 31 years of living in Thailand and mostly in Chiang Mai I can tell you that there has been a major decline in the quality and availability of the commercial adult entertainment venues in Chiang Mai over the years. There is no question about it, much of what used to be has gone and what is left is very much nondescript or simply grot, plus due to the lack of supply and demand even the grot has become expensive.

In the early 1970's, those of us at NKP, Udorn, or Ubon could only dream of what we heard about those "long legged beauties" in Chiang Mai. Not that the "camp follower" action we got at these air bases lacked for anything..... But the idea of a "sortie to CNX" to check out the ladies was always on our mind (unfortunately, the "Klong" C-130 shuttle service didn't go there).

Sorry to hear those CM ladies of my dreams have evaporated. But, maybe at age 70, and seriously married, that's for the best. Sigh.

have to agree. older, balding, out of shape, sweaty pot bellied farangs don't stand too much of a chance these days in Thailand. things have changed, the economy is strong, young people have quite a bit of spending money. many young, good looking Asian men come here with plenty of cash to burn. and yes, social media and electronic communications are where most of the deals go down -- and as has been said - you won't find much but some hill-tribes in dives unless you are ready to pop 5K Bath and more. in high end places in Hat Yai i't's not uncommon for Asian tourists to drop 10-20K on some drinks, ladies, etc. every night of the week. in the big mango - even more.
