jet skis umbrellas etc

i know, another topic about jet skis and umbrellas, whistling.gif but just wondered if i was missing something regarding the rules... Last i heard, was that jet skis had to be kept out of the water until hired, an instructor had to show users how to use them, and prices had to be shown.., none of which i saw today on kamala beach.. i also see the guys have their back-up mafia ready just in case, sitting further back towards the restaurants etc....Also up and down the beach, thai guys openly renting out plastic/ foam matts to lie on and umbrellas, i thought people were allowed to bring their own but not allowed to rent out on the beach?? correct me if im wrong post-209058-0-01296700-1419792111_thumb.post-209058-0-69287100-1419792141_thumb.

There's no enforcement of the law, and the token few Army personnel aren't enough to do anything. The Navy was supposed to have taken over and enforce the NCPO edicts, but I don't see that happening either, so thugs going to thug and there is nothing to be done without active enforcement from the Navy.

Unfortunately, your post is too true, SP, and they didn't even bother to touch the transport debarcle on Phuket. They were probably afraid of a civil uprising. :)

What army did wrong is clean up the mess on the Phuket beaches, not the mess in the local gov't. If the local gov't was enforcing the rules set by the army, we wouldn't see the jet ski and umbrella mafia on the beach again.

Fantastic.

The trouble is, is that the people's sense of self-entitlement is so strong, that it will eventually wear down the authorities (whomever they may be) willingness to continue enforcement.

Eventually, there will be a "compromise" and they will all flood back on to the beaches with no "face" lost on either side. It's just a matter of time.

Is the jet ski Mafia alive and thriving on Kata??

Yes.

Link....Are they still extorting money for "damages"? Are they as bad as the Paton thugs?

Some people here said 'yes' to the same question quite some time ago now, I say 'no'. I am at Kata Beach often and don't see problems with jet ski's.

South end of Patong beach today - about 4- 6 jet skis parked on the sand, I called tourist police & was told very politely I might add to report to a local copper. I did this & received a shrug.

Same place, I saw a melee between 2/3 Indian/Arabic guys & countless local cowards. On the ground & being attacked, before it comes I didn't stop because I was in a car & yes I called the POlice & stopped at the POlice box to inform.

Kudos to u eezergood.... Hope the local newspapers get hold of this!! I too will inform everyone should I see any untoward business going on... Maybe it's the only way something will be done if they get bombarded with complaints at every turn.

"Maybe it's the only way something will be done" - the Thai Army/Navy were on the sand, during military rule, ordering the removal of illegal structures. All the while, the jet-skis were at it.

I don't expect this scam to stop anytime soon.

I see on PW that personal umbrellas are only going to be allowed in the 10% zone where umbrella rentals are going to be reinstated. I can already foresee the problems this is going to cause.

Ridiculous idea.

I also took a look down Kamala beach sunday afternoon, the vendors had disappeared , also a couple of the umbrella sellers... as i sat on the beach, i watched 2 people on jet skis, driving very close to the beach , and in between some swimmers who were only in waist to shoulder deep water and the beach ... they were going slow, but why on earth did these brainless morons feel the need to be in that area, they then went to the end of the beach near the hotels and raced each other back.....they looked like Thai people but i cant be sure...no need for idiots like that around, another accident waiting to happen... i was also in the water when the speedboat with the inflatable things tied behind that people sit on passed me bye, about 4 or 5 metres away from me..i was also in water that was waist height..far too close

oh oh; more changes;

guess an understand was reached ( ie money passed hands)

NOW in front of the police station on the town side of the sidewalk, is full of shops and the parking lot has stalls / restaurants as well

the dirt area that WAS a parking lot is now full of Massages.

The area in front of the Cemetery (about 1/2 way towards the Novotel ) has people selling food, drinks and renting mats and umbrellas ( in one section 3 deep----LUCKY GUY) )

still most of the beach is open to all thumbsup.gif

+1 Phuketrichard... Spoke to a police 'friend' today he said NOW you know why we weren't too bothered with inforcing the laws, we all knew it would be a waste of time and only make enemies when we knew all along they would be allowed back...
