PATTAYA: -- On Saturday, a 53 year old woman lost all 4 fingers on her left hand after she accidentally started a meat grinder while her hand was inside.

Khun Prapart, was preparing to close her stall at the Kao Mae Gaew Market and began to clean the inside of the meat grinder, as she does every day. She began to clean the inside of the machine but she told medics that her knee accidentally hit the power switch which started the machine.

no safety switch? No guard of some sort over the on / off switch?

OUCH!

Gives a new meaning to the term "Finger Food"!

Cleaning all electric machines is always done with the not only power off, but electrical cord plugged off the wall. It seems prevention and logic is not here on friendly terms with people like drivers, train's engineers, or maintenance crew and now meat grinders.

I rarely read about scientists getting their hands caught in a meat grinder. Wonder why that is?

Because they get someone else to do it!

Sorry for your pain but you should always turn off the power when cleaning ANYTHING

East Pattaya Meat Grinder - sounds like a good name for a bar!

Reading all the above posts makes me wonder why accidents happen anyway.......with so many clever, intelligent and smart thinking people around

Losing "all 4 fingers on her left hand ..."

Yes, poor woman, born with only 9 fingers.

Most people are only born with 8 fingers. Those 2 shorter stubby ones - they are called thumbs

I am surprised that nobody has said that he police acted on a 'tip off'. I hope the stupid women recovers quickly so that she doesn't forget to keep her hand in.coffee1.gif

What do you expect in a country where safety is not a word in the Thai dictionary ? No helmets, kids driving to school, no education etc. The lady will probably be back cleaning with 4 fingers less, and the machine still switched on.

Really Sad. Hope she gets well soon.

Reminds me of a judge I knew that had lost both thumbs...justice fingers.
