Green book name change - Foreigner owner, missing papers

Featured Replies

Hi,

I own a motorcycle that is on my name. Now, I’m selling it and need to change it from my name to the new owner’s name. From what I’ve read, the owner, if foreigner, needs a work permit or certificate of residence in order to be able to change the green book to the new owner’s name.

My problem is that I don’t have a work permit and I don’t have my certificate of residence anymore. Now, I’m on a tourist visa staying at a friend’s place, so I don’t have any way to get a new certificate of residence.

Did anyone succeeded in changing a green book’s name without having the owner certificate of residence or work permit? I’m planning to go at the office ask by myself, but if someone has the answer that would save me some trouble...

Thanks!

I think even with a tourist visa it is possible to get a certificate of residence at local immigration. You only have to proof where you're staying. e.g your friends house.

I should add; Visa exempt is not a tourist visa, you need a visa stamped in your passport.

If immigration won't give you a "certificate of residence" then you could try your embassy.

The seller only needs a valid/indate visa stamp for Thailand. It's the buyer that needs the Certificate or WP or Yellow Tabian Baan for the new owner address to be entered into the bike book.

I've been issued with many letters of residency from immigration over the years whilst only having an exempt stamp in my passport.

Though not for a while, and the goal posts do move.
