Those Blue Pipes On Sukhumvit

Featured Replies

On my way to Ekamai this weekend I noticed a large bright blue pipe has been installed on both sides of the road, along the sidewalk/pavement. The one on the south side appears to be finished and disappears into the ground near Ekamai, and the one on the north side was still open at both ends between Ekamai and Phra Khanong or thereabouts.

Is this the new economy way of laying pipes, above ground instead of burying them? Berlin used to have something similar, and a few still exist, to carry hot water I believe, althogh they were raised above ground and often painted bright colours to disguise the fact they were an eyesore. Here, they are there for people to climb over or sit on while waiting for a bus, and where they have to cross entrances or sois the job has been very rough and ready. Nasty.

Anyone know what it's all about?

mo expert but i think they are water pipes

Temporary water pipes often have to be constructed above ground during underpass and subway type construction so perhaps there is construction scheduled for that area?
