Thaivisa News Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Krathu, Phuket:- Several Chinese tourists were injured when their bus crashed into two motorcycles and houses at the notorious death curve downhill of Patong mountain in Krathu district Friday evening, police said. Pol Lt Sineenart Cherdchutrakulthong, an interrogator on duty of Krathu police station, said the accident happened at 7:30 pm at the notorious curve at the back of the Suwan Khiriwong Temple in Tambon Patong. The bus was taking 13 Chinese tourists to a visit Patong Beach when the accident occurred. The bus driver, Somkid Matchakarn, told police that the brake system of his bus malfunctioned when the bus was going downhill from the Patong Mountain. Unable to stop the bus, Somkid said he could not avoid hitting a passing-by motorcycle before the bus hit a parked motorcycle and houses of Ban Mon Community on the roadside. The rider of the motorcycle was severely injured. Somkid and several Chinese tourists suffered slight injuries. They received first aid treatments at the scene and were sent to the Patong Hospital. The bus was chartered by Jentai Co Ltd to take the 13 tourists from Krabi to tour Phuket. The tourists have been touring in Phuket for four days and they were scheduled to return to Krabi Friday night. The tourists wanted to visit Patong Beach before leaving Phuket. The steep Patong mountain with curved road was notorious for deadly road accidents, especially at the curve behind the temple. It has been reported that some 3,000 road accidents happed each year on the Patong mountainous road, prompting the Phuket Provincial Administration to consider an ambition project of digging a tunnel through the mountain to the beach.
MyFriend You Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Blame the road! T.I.T. Of course its the Roads' fault, it it wasn't there, the accident wouldn't have happened!! Lock the road up & throw away the key. Hope the motorcyclist is back on his feet soon.

Lupatria Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Problem is that won't keep them from coming here 1
tingtongfarang Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 After reading the news everyday i get the feeling thailand has expanded its population control program to include chinese also, vans and busses seem to be scattering them at regular intervals, now taxis also.
ZeldasCavern Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 So sad this keeps happening there... It would help if they would remove the big 60 km painted on road signs at the top and throughout that hill. Not that I believe the drivers even look at the road signs. Only towards the bottom is there a 30 km sign - go figure it???? So many have been injured or lost their lives...
Lokie Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 The hill is not dangerous in the slightest, just the idiots who go over it at break neck speed and incompetant vehilcle control failing to drive according to road conditions, but 3 beeps of the horn at the Chianese temple at top ensures safety...
phil2407 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I've had blowouts on cars (80mph)and scooter at 90kph but I can't understand why car "flipped" -maybe he needs readjustment training in driving
kinmaew Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Thais are so smart! - Where is the bloody tunnel is that too hard to build?
thaiwreck Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 With so many accidents happening involving buses every month makes you wonder when they will run out of buses, one can only hope !!!!
Lupatria Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 This downhill road with daily accidents should be named death row by now!
cup-O-coffee Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Let's not spend thousands of bahts to repair the buses to safe standards, and put the fear of death in the drivers, and show them how to engage a low gear when going downhill... no sir... let's blow billions of bahts and dig a tunnel through a huge mountain so they can kill each other hundreds of feet below the surface said mountain in the same run down buses, with the same lunatic liars, who are speeding to overtake the other guy. I am beggared. 1
armadillo215 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 The problem is so simple. The drivers don't have a clue how or why to use down shift. I've taken the bus three times to Isaan with the Mrs. and the driver won't downshift to go up a steep hill and the bus just barely makes it to the top then rides the brakes all the way down the other side to the point the burning brake smell is in the coach. I bought a pick up and will never take a bus again. Of course we all know how well they drive on flat roads as well. Passing on curves and such. Whew!!! 2
armadillo215 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Thanks, some folks know it all and cannot learn.
ratcatcher Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Several Chinese tourists were injured when their bus crashed. Reported brake failure. Inability to use the gears to slow the vehicle? Three Chinese tourists were injured after the car they were traveling in flipped. Burst tire. Speed?
tonbridgebrit Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Problem is that won't keep them from coming here And a load of other people of other nationalties kicking it won't stop other tourists either !!
tonbridgebrit Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 No worries, they were only Chinese tourists 555 And the richest two or three per cent of the Thais, they look the same as them Chinese tourists, how about they disappear as well. Thailand would be a better place for everybody else.
Jim walker Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 an accident on thai roads well this has came as a bit of a shock as i was under the impresion that all thai drivers are the best trained and regulated in asia
jerojero Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Brake malfunction. Ha Ha, for sure! No chance speeding was involved. My daily laugh. Thanks!
