Gov Nisit (right) makes a point to Mr Hancock.

PHUKET: Governor Nisit Jansomwong yesterday (March 19) said he is confident that tourists are safe in Phuket.

He was speaking at a meeting with British Consul Michael Hancock, who was visiting from the embassy in Bangkok.

Also at the meeting were representatives of the Phuket Marine Department, Health Department, Tourist Police and Marine Policeman, who all explained their responsibilities and the actions they had taken to ensure tourists are as safe as can be from becoming victms of crime, diseases, natural disasters and road and marine accidents.

Phuket Governor Nisit said, “Phuket has security standards in every way and we are ready to face any emergency. In addition, we have high quality hospitals to care for patients, including cases from Krabi and Phang Nga.

“Also, we have CCTV cameras that cover every area so that tourists can feel safe.”

If there was a proper ''Public Transport System'' , it would help a lot, at least tourists would not need to rent ''Scooters'', some of them have never been on two wheels on there life...

That would be a good start.... for SAFETY...

The body language is interesting.

I thought the same thing. The Brit doesn't want to say what he feels. The Thai is spouting BS.

Is this cctv cameras of the fake cctv camera type ? The type they bought so many of in Bangkok. Same price as the real ones.

more bs.....moving on swiftly..

The Brit is going through the motions so he can check off that little box that says he held this meeting. The Thai is blustering and puffing about "standards" and "security" while he know next to nothing about either.

Looks like the diplomat would be more comfortable having a prostate exam by a fat fingered ladyboy........... The Thai guy is showing a map of all the fake cameras, the jet ski mafia beach positions, tuk tuk ranks, and the new metered taxi rates from the airport.

did the meeting last for half an hour.

Hrmpf. Nisit could be shocked if Hancock's thoughts would be projected at a screen at the other side of the room.

I wonder if Puripat was there himself to defend his jet ski actions, or if he sent a representative. On second thought, I highly doubt the cash collector was there.

Except outside Taipan where conveniently many of the cameras were facing the wrong direction during the incident with Mr. Pendlebury

I think at least on camera witnessed the Taipan incident. And amazingly the video made it to the public domain.

The Phuket Gov is pointing and saying, "Just sign off here, (Brit Consul has his pen ready) and then you can be off to the golf course, followed by your massage, followed by your 5 course dinner." biggrin.png

From memory, Phuket has around 400 road fatalities every year.

I'm sure Bangkok style metered taxis and/or Pattaya style baht buses would save many lives here, but who cares about the lose of human life, when tuk-tuk drivers need to rip off tourists?

Don't think the Brit shares the unquenchenableThai desire for a photo opportunity.

Looks as if he wants to down play it.

And that's why nothing ever gets done. The diplomatic corps are eunuchs. What has any foreign government done in the past decade to protect its nationals in Thailand? The Canadian ambassador has his finger up his posterior in regard to the botched investigation of the Belanger sisters, the Australian government does nothing when one of their nationals is accused of a bogus murder, but will cry over a bunch of heroin traffickers in Indonesia, the UK government tut tuts but does nothing, the Danish government doesn't speak out on the savage beating of one of its nationals, etc. Why would the Thais take the foreign consuls seriously or even care what they have to say?

As usual words are cheap and easy. whistling.gif

The words maybe easy, but they are not "cheap."

We have all paid, or continue to pay, for these Diplomat's lavish lifestyle, both at home, and abroad, through our taxes.
